I think there is a similar thread in the BV Forum

I have 5 BV bags. The leather and skins are so fab and it's one of the few design houses that still use more costly suede interiors as standard rather than cheaper materials. One of the reasons I feel happy to pound the streets of London wearing BV is because no one knows it's A1 designer unless they know like my (male) friend who is BV-mad. I note a lot of people who work inside fashion, who receive many freebies, choose to spend their own money on BV bags.

On a slight neg. I find their more recent policy of raising and raising all prices sky high just daft, plus there can be years and years when I can't see anything in a decent cw that works for me (TM seems to  those milky pastels with a pashion (sic)).

I appreciate BV and rank them highly from an objective perspective, but the brand doesn't speak to me. I'm not a huge fan of their basket weave style, and there's something about the colors -- too muted for my taste.

I like they're under-the-radar, but find the bags boring (ironic since I love Valextra, which is another under-the-radar brand some people find boring). It's all a preference issue.

I love the woven look of the leather. BUT: I don't like how they improved their classic hobo style by making it worse, the prices are simply outrageous, and I think lambskin is a scam.

It's funny, I feel like I *should* love BV because it has some of the same qualities I love about my Hermes bags -- great craftsmanship, interesting colors, and under-the-radar styles (I know Hermes isn't always subtle, but my most used H bags are the leather Garden Party and the Evelyne worn with the H facing in). So I should love BV, especially since it's less expensive than H. But I just can't get excited about the brand. Maybe it's the woven leather, or the fact that their most known styles are hobos and hobos have never worked for me. I don't know. I respect the brand, but it doesn't make my heart beat faster.

I don't like the weave. For me, they look grandma-ish. I don't ever feel modern or stylish when I try them out. So, I eventually leave empty handed. I hope that makes sense.

I can't speak for the world, just for myself.
I don't choose bv.

Here's a bv hobo: http://cdn.yoox.biz/45/45267036li_15_fp.jpg
Weave is very even, almost basket-like. Plus, colors never speak to me.

Here's detail of campomaggi woven bag: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRLyRiktyZIZkgKOixhXEVvDycNSP3l63ubLzJlNHx6miCEzL62
Woven strips not uniform width & dye intensity varies. More life, movement & soul in such looks, imo.

I would choose the campomaggi. But, I enjoy quirkiness over exacting perfection. To each, his/her own.
Though, honestly--I see muffin crumbs & pebbles caught in either leather weave, given my lifestyle, within 4 days. 1 week tops. ;)

Hope helps.

Both of these posts describe my issues with the brand better than I could. My mom covets BV and they seem like very well made bags but they're not my style. And I'd never even thought about the crumbs--so even if the weave does end up growing on me, I'll have to pass because I am a very messy person (she said, brushing the remnants of the peanut butter and honey sandwich off her laptop). :nogood:

I think they're beautiful but most of them are hobo style. I don't like a hobo with no compartments where everything is swimming around and you can't find your stuff.
I do have a vintage satchel; I rarely carry it mostly because it's a bit small for me.

I really don't like these bags. The weave is very unattractive to me - it makes the bags look homespun, retro (in the bad way) and inexpensive. It reminds me of the bags in the straw markets in the Bahamas / Carribean. Or, perhaps, something an aging hippie would wear.

I also don't care for the styles they come in. I don't rush to buy hobos, but, I like many of them. (I love the one hobo I have). That being said, none of BV's styles or shapes seem inspired.

So, while they may have excellent quality and great color range, these bags are a visual / fashion dud to me.

Thanks to all of you for your views - it's comes down to personal choice I suppose and what you're willing to pay for what you like and what works for you!

I think the quality is gourgeous and I love that are not labels and logos. I own two and they have gotten prettier over time. I totally wear them casually and think they will be in style forever. Ive had my black BV for 6 years and its every but as current as ever. Brands do different things for differerent people I guess. I think BV is the epitome of classic understated quality.

I like their tote, but the proportion isn't right for me. It's too big, but shallow. And too wide at the base it poke out from my body and hit things when I walk pass. I'm a clumsy person and not really the slim one.

Now that I'm older, I don't really use hobo bag that often anymore. I prefer a handheld with cross body or shoulder strap. I only like their Speedy-shaped bag the most out of the lot, but I don't like how they attach the strap to the handle. I like it to be attached at the end of the bag. I do like the size of the larger one. Just not the way the strap attached.

For the rest, I don't care for the hardware. I think it's ugly. But then again, I don't like big hardware on my bags that much.

It's just a style of bag offered. I do admire their woven craft.

I think the weave and many of the colors are beautiful, but I don't love the styles. I tried a few on in Neiman's, and the double-handle bags were aggravating because the outer handle kept sliding off my shoulder, and the single-handle ones just looked too dowdy IMHO. I don't like a lot of hardware, but I do like some, and BV is one of the few brands with absolutely none. The high price and poor resale are also factors. I was considering a BV for fall because I love some of the purple and burgundy BV colors, but ultimately went for a Proenza Shouler (a beautiful burgundy with silver hardware :)). Lower price and more pop. I'm sure the BV is a better-made bag, but that only gets it so far for me . . .

I love BV leather, it's the softest and smooshiest of all the brands IMO. But that's why it's a problem for me, I need bags with structure. I've tried several of their styles and have come to the conclusion that unfortunately BV is not right for me.
