I think part of the problem with returns being sought several months (or more) after purchase lies in the fact that stores sell shoes and clothing, etc. so far in advance of the season. E.g., stores are now selling boots. It's not even mid-July. Boots won't be appropriate likely until, say, October, which is about 3 months from now, at the earliest. Not surprising that some people change their mind in the three or four months after they buy something.

I am not saying it's right. I just think there should be a specific return period to force people to decide whether or not they want to keep something. Even though the season for wearing the item is weeks or months ahead.

Nordstroms "big" sale is full of winter stuff, like Uggs. People are urged to buy now, return later.

A Bloomie’s SA just gave me a hard time for returning a pair of unworn pants with the receipt within two weeks because I had no tag on them. Luckily a more senior person just reprinted a tag. But the receipt said “365 days in sellable condition unless stated on a tag or this receipt” of which neither said I had to leave the tag on. It wasn’t like it was a special occasion dress.

To have a return policy of 365 days is just way too long for me and i refuse to shop with stores with such policy as I don't want to buy someone else's return stock 1 year later! SMH!
I don't know which I was more surprised by - the one year return policy or a SA freaking out due to a missing tag, even with the receipt and a timely return!

Your return was clearly warranted but the 1 year return policy will ick me to no end!
Yeah, that was really surprising. I had to look twice at it.

I've been ignoring Bloomingdale's for a while, but they completely revamped one store near me and the other was surprisingly nice. They are selling Tom Ford Beauty and a couple of other designers I like. Because I purchased so much (needed a skirt suit for an interview, and got two shirts to go underneath, plus the ill fated pants that matched) I joined the Loyalist program. Doesn't seem to give you much but a gift card...but oh well.

I really don't think the bann is based on percentage of returns because if it were, I don't think I should have been banned. I have shopped with hautelook for many years. Almost 10 years if am not mistaken and have spent thousands of dollars with them. I usually keep most of the stuff I buy. For a few years now, I have been ordering stuff while am out of the country since my husband works overseas and I get them delivered to my address in the US because there's someone at the house to receive them. I have done this for years with no issues until of recent when I got an email from heautloook that my account had been suspended "temporarily" because of fraudulent activity on the account. I called CS and the rep I spoke with was less than polite. He said something about suspicious international PayPal payments. I confirmed I made some purchases with PayPal so how's that suspicious. I asked if my account could be reactivated but he bluntly told me nothing could be done. When I got back in town two weeks later, I realized i didn't receive a few of the items I ordered. Called CS again and that is when they told me that the items were returned in exchange for a gift card. I told them I didn't make those returns as I wasn't even in town the dates the returns were made. But was told there's nothing they could do. Apparently someone stole my packages, returned them to Nordstrom rack store for a gift card and I get banned. Like wow... seriously? I still want to escalate this but how do I get the attention of the CEO because I spoke to a manager and she could care less about my plight.

Tbh I understand the reaction of the shop, while it is really horrible for you, the they delivered and held up their end of the bargain, for them it looks like the problem is caused by you, so to stop more of this, they suspended the account. If somebody stole the parcels after they were delivered, that is really not their problem, they delivered and after that the responsibility is yours. While it is not a fault of yours, it is also not a fault of theirs, and they are trying to protect themselves from claims and returns, as has happened in your case.

Since they know nothing of your personal circumstances, you could tell them just about anything, how do they know your story is true, because I am sure they hear a lot of excuses every day, they don't have much other choice than to suspend the account, because otherwise they could be liable for not showing diligence when several things were flagged up for their attention.

If you can show them that you reported the theft to the police and you are doing what you can to avoid it (remember the items disappeared or were returned after they had delivered and done their part) they might reconsider, but in all honesty, they will possibly think that there might be more trouble ahead and just try to stay clear.

I think your issue is fraud and not returns (not the same as OP issue). I think companies are cracking down on fraud a lot more than they used to. I tried to order a large ticket item from Farfetch and my cc company initially declined payment and then allowed it after I called. But Farfetch sent the whole transaction to their fraud department and wouldn't accept that particular card anymore.

I have about a 50% return rate with Nordstrom. I only shop the sale every year, and have only been doing so for two years. I didn’t order multiple sizes, even though the YouTube reviewers all encourage it. Dollar wise, I tend to return the cheaper items and keep the more expensive things. Some of the returns were 100% their fault, like the time they sent me a used bra. Others are just about quality or bad fit. Once they sent me a sweater with the anti-theft device still attached. They advised me to send it back, but I got another store to remove it for me instead.

I’m not going to order any more shoes, intimates, or bargain brands from them anymore. Hopefully that will help my return ratio, but it will mean I buy a lot less.

I find I just don't shop online at Nordstrom much any more in light of all these stories. If I do, and need to return, I take it to the store. But I am not going to keep something I don't want, that doesn't fit, etc. just out of fear they will terminate my account.
Other stores like NM monitor your purchase: return ratio as well. I was at CS and heard the SA tell whoever was on the phone how much (ostensibly) a customer bought and returned. IDK why but clearly someone is interested.
