Birkin insert

Ah, thank you.

Still, they are quite lovely, and a clever design. Sigh.

I don't understand the appeal of something like this. Seems like it would only add a lot of weight and bulk to a Birkin or other bag. I think the point of an insert is to be very lightweight, so as not to be like a bag within a bag which is what this looks like to me.

I still think Hermès (or another brand) SLGs are the best way to organize a purse.

I wouldn't have a clue, but I sure think they look great. xxx

The moment I purchased my first B (used from Fashionphile), I researched all the insert/organizer options available here on tPF and more broadly. I wanted to protect my B (from pen ink, scratches, etc) and organize the depths of the bag (it’s a 35). I eventually ordered one from MaiTai which is beautiful, soft and provides protection and organization. I subsequently ordered one for my 25 & 30.
And then, this weekend, I read an IG post from a fellow H fan and respected tPF member suggesting that an insert/organizer might be damaging rather than protecting my Bs. Before I completely eschew the use of my organizers, I wanted to ask the opinion of long time H bag owners: do you use an insert or organizer? If so, do you worry that it might negatively impact your bag by pushing/stretching the leather? I’ve noticed that the bottom of the front pocket of my Bs is noticeable but I’d assumed it was because I throw my phone in it.

MODS: it’s entirely possible this question has been addressed elsewhere but, if so, I couldn’t find the answer. Feel free to move/delete if it was.

I’ve bought inserts, but I think they’re a bit of a pain to use; they add weight; and, they take up space

having said that, I am very very careful re pens, hand sanitizer, etc.

i end up keeping the inserts to preserve bag shape on the shelf ( and/or I also stuff the bag insert with lots of dust bags stuffed with more dust bags.

The insert wont stretch your bag if it’s soft and smaller than the bag measurements, and I seem to recall Mai tai inserts as being relatively soft :)

I use my fourbi 25 all the time:) it’s perfect for a birkin 35 in my opinion as it’s big enough to fit daily needs and still leaves room for a scarf, makeup bag, and small water bottle. It’s also soft, so I don’t see it damaging the inside or structure of the bag. If you’re looking for an insert to keep the shape of the bag, it might not be the insert for you. I only use it for its organizing purpose and ease of transferring from one bag to another:)

Regarding the front and back pocket, I never put anything of weight in them as the pocket somewhat bulges outside the bag if abused. I use those pockets for receipts, petty cash, etc

Hope I was able to help!

I use the MaiTai and WhiteFox inserts for my B35 and Mini Lindy respectively. I think esp the MaiTai one is soft enough not to cause any structural damage to the B35. But I personally don't store my Birkin with the insert, I take it out and use a bag pillow for storage instead, just to be on the safe side.

I've used MaiTai inserts since my very first Hermes bag. The only bags I don't use them with are mini bags. I think I have at least ten different MT inserts.

Yes, a stiff insert left in or even used a lot can leave indents in a bag. My Swift Toolbox got lines in it from a Divide&Conquer insert; when I stopped using the insert, after a while, the marks softened out.

I don't see how something as light and soft as MT's inserts can damage a bag, though. The key is to remove the inserts as you'd remove any contents of a bag, and then store the bag as you normally do. (There is an existing huge thread on storing bags, as well as another thread on inserts and organizers.)

I also use a Hermes fourbi in my Kelly bags. My SA told me to get a size smaller so there
is room for other items to put in your bag if needed. I have both size 32 & 35 & I prefer
the fourbi which I own in silk patterns as well as the fabric one. I have no dents or other
issues to speak of.
