Yes it does happen. My mother is a prime example. She and all her siblings were bullied because kids said they thought they were better (due to their features) when in reality they were one of the poorest families in the neighborhood and they're only real concern was getting a decent meal and clothes that fit.

But in Beyonce's case, I've seen quite a few pics of her as a child and never have I seen that she had sandy blonde hair. That's why I gave the side-eye.
Neither have I so I'll help throw a side eye as well. She was always very pretty so I don't doubt she may have been treated badly by others. Kids can be very jealous.

Unless Columbia offered her a contract for more money (which I doubt because the type of contracts labels are giving out now are significantly less than they used to be) I can totally see her leaving. Columbia wasn't even aware of her last album until an hr before its release, and other than distribution Columbia doesn't seem to have a huge hand in her career anymore; Parkwood and Roc Nation handle the rest.

She seems very determined to handle every aspect of her career on her own, I'll be shocked if she stays with Columbia.

That's an interesting point.

I guess in Beyonce's case she fits the image of what is considered multiracial more than Solange? Or maybe Bey grew up hearing it and so it was more natural? I do find it interesting that many see Beyonce as trying to be white when I think she makes a point of strongly identifying with what's commonly perceived as black culture.

Bey and Solo look a lot alike though. And Bey used to look "blacker"--she tanned her skin & used to rock braids and stuff.

do we believe that sttory that Columbia didn't know?

Hmm... I think MJ is more in that Madonna, Beatles category. Personally, I don't think Bey is that big of a star though I'm sure some will argue.

But I do think she is big enough to leave Columbia and be just as successful.
I'm always curious...what is it that would make her as big as MJ to you?

Sometimes I don't think of her in that light either simply because I've watched her career develop and while I like her music at surface, I don't find that, for me, she has many classics that I find myself going back to listen to over and over. When I think of classics and MJ, most of them stem from his younger years up to his Bad album. Then there are other times, I take an objective look at what it takes to consider someone that big of a star and the reality is consistency in product to existing fans, the ability to gain new fans and longevity in the business all on a global scale. In that light, she's definitely as big as them.

I just don't see myself putting on Drunk in Love when I'm 65 and going "oooohhhhh this was my jam". LOL

I completely agree. She's good. But she's no where near MJ or even Madonna. Deeper and deeper trumps Drunk in love any day of the week and twice on a rainy Sunday.

I completely agree with you. Dangerously In Love is a classic imo. I periodically pull that back out and listen to it as if it was new. I can see myself listening to songs from it when I'm 65. Will I consider Drunk In Love or Single Ladies a classic? No. But maybe this generation after me will.

Looking at it from that perspective, I guess she is this generation's MJ or Madonna, etc. But for me I need more time and she needs more longevity for me to acknowledge her in that regard.

So yea I think it's kind of a 50/50 split with me. She is certainly at the top of the game globally right now and has been for some years. But for me personally, I need her to be in that status for at least two decades. I dunno...
