Beware: Best faked bags in the market

I'm asking your opinion because you are from Toronto -- for decades Oliver Jewellery was a low-balling, hated pawn shop. Now they have 6 locations - one in Yorkville! and they are selling used bags and he brags about using an Entrupy purse scanner.

I would not for one minute trust this guy with authenticating a bag. Have you heard anything about him? I get so annoyed when I pass one of his locations and see all those bags in the window.
I’ve seen his commercial over the years too. Don’t have personal experience but wouldn’t go to him for preloved bags. I’m not even sure if he has an authenticator to verify handbags’ authenticity. A purse scanner is not the same as having a trusted and experienced authenticator who has deep knowledge of the luxury handbags. I’m already skittish with well known US resellers (not their reputation, just me afraid of superfakes) but these US resellers do a lot more business/volume with luxury preloves and have solid reputation. It’s a bit iffy when Oliver used to be a pawn shop and is now selling high end.

I respectfully disagree. I just purchased a lovely preloved Speedy HL with original box, LV paper, lock and key from Poshmark. It will be authenticated before it ships to me. If you‘re willing to perform due diligence, you can find some hidden gems!
That's fine. I wasn't making a generalization that applied to everyone. I said TO ME at the start of my statement, which means that what I said applies to my own thinking and behavior. As such, there is nothing for you to disagree with, as you cannot disagree with something that I think and do for myself and which only applies to and affects me.

Buying used goods TO ME is not luxurious, so I don't do it. TO ME, luxury is not simply about the possession of material goods.

TO ME, luxury is also being in the position to be able to go into a boutique and buy something new and receive good treatment from the brand's SAs.

TO ME, luxury is not having to rely on the used market to get what I want.

TO ME, luxury is not having to be in the position to find a deal.

Well, TO ME you are beginning to sound a bit condescending. Hopefully I am incorrect.
TO ME, I pay cash for everything (cars, jewelry, bags, etc)
TO ME, I also enjoy stellar treatment from SA’s, but also am not so vanilla to own the trendiest and latest bags.
TO ME, wealth is quiet - it doesn’t scream and cause attention.

I would be very leery of purchasing any recent season bags or shoes from resellers at this point (including Fashionphile, RealReal, etc) since the super fakes are truly incredible. The factories are producing fakes at a level that is on par with the luxury houses so for peace of mind, I would definitely opt for buying in store.
I've wondered why Fashionphile has multiples of the same bag for sale. Unless I'm missing something, that's a red flag to me.

Well, I'm not sure what you expect when you take what someone is saying about their own beliefs and actions for themselves and disagree with them when they have absolutely nothing to do with you and affect you in no way.

Fashionphile is great, IMO. My guess re: multiples of same bag is they are no longer a favorite of their owner. I picked up a darling Valentino Garavani rockstud bag and saved $100’s. It was a brand new bag!

I know they have a good reputation. I've just noticed that they'll have multiples of the same bag that are brand new and it strikes me as odd. For example, they currently show three brand new/giftable Dior book totes in the same print ranging from $3095-$3495. Am I to believe that three people at the same time decided to sell the same new bag to them? Or is it that people buy bags thinking they can make a profit on in demand bags by selling them to FP? As a buyer it makes me somewhat uneasy.

Putting on my tin foil hat for a second. I feel FP works with resellers a lot - whether it's individual people or if they have a small team of their own buying brand new HTF bags to sell on the site. I'm with you! Why do they have 3 NWT Book Totes in the same print? If it was the sake of someone just didn't like the bag... why didn't they just return it?

A year or two ago FP had a bunch of new book totes with a Stars and Stripes motif. I recall reading, probably here, someone's suggestion that they may have come from the Dior outlet at Woodbury Commons in NY, the only Dior outlet in North America. That made perfect sense.
