Best way to 'detax' after H in Europe

Pablo was updated with new algorithms, there’s more randomness to the process when I went through CDG a couple of weeks ago. I think this is their way of spot checking folks with purchased goods to make sure they have them on them like they’re supposed to. I got red marks on small items like purchases less than €400. The system wouldn’t be as effective if everyone got through automatically would it?

A Chanel SA at Rue Cambon, today told me about the more randomness feature of Pablo, it seems to be a known update.

I just got home today and all my purchases were green. I was thinking that the 2 big purchases I had might beep red but everything went through smoothly!! My purchases that weren’t ‘H’ but were other brands like Chanel and LV in September also beeped green. I’ve never gotten a red.

I once helped a couple who didn’t understand PABLO run an H receipt through. It was over 60K euro and it beeped green. I think it’s completely random but has been set to flag more purchases.

I got my Hermes detax for a bag and twillies insanely fast from global blue via credit card, a few days after purchase. Very different than when I bought a bag in Paris two years ago where it took around a little over two months. I don't believe the refund was issued by global blue back then. This refund, though it came faster, it was less than the amount on the forms, it's around 9% instead of 10%. Has this happened to others? Is it because global blue issued it and they take a bigger cut? Not a huge amount of money in the end, just annoying that the refund ended up amounting to even less than 10%.

Hi everyone, can someone clarify me whether the following questions:

1- IF GREEN> do I need to mail in my Pablo form?
2- IF GREEN> do I need to mail the purchase receipt as well besides the Pablo form?
3- IF RED> do I mail Pablo form + purchase receipt?

4- Anyone has left from Nice airport? Where is the Pablo machines (airport website says by arrival hall) other websites say by departure/customs before checking in your luggage

Thanks in advance! :)

You can do the detaxe at CDG. If you have to see an agent, and they ask for your boarding pass, you can show both boarding passes (e.g. the CDG/FRA and the FRA/outside of EU pass) so they can see you are leaving EU. I always detaxe at CDG even if I am transferring through another EU airport or LHR. I have never had a problem.

I would avoid doing detaxe at FRA as a transfer passenger. FRA is a big airport and it can be confusing too. It can awhile to transfer depending upon gate assignments etc.

Worst case and CDG wont do it (I would be surprised though), the tax refund at FRA is usually near the security checkpoints (on the secure side).

Wonder if mods can merge this thread into the larger one?!
TPFers have the best information and so willing to share here. Thanks !

if #1 or #2, that's it, nothing else to do. it's all electronic so no more manual paperwork for mailing.
if #3, must see customs agent on duty right behind the Pablo kiosk, show your purchases and get your form stamped by agent and that's it. no mailing of anything as custom agent's scan works the same as Pablo.

the only difference between Pablo and customs agent is random selection for verification, robots only go so far up until now, they can read scanned forms but can't verify the physical items hence agents now and then for manual inspections. wouldn't surprise me one day in the near future that it'll be completely automated where you can show your purchases to camera to scan the tags or whatever.

So basically either with Pablo or Custom officer, I DONT need to mail in the Pablo form and purchase receipt anymore? I keep all the paper work?

I was told otherwise, that even if it scans green. You still mail the Pablo form. Just in case!! I was told that by multiple SA’s to scan the forms, if green, still seal it in the envelope it was in and drop it off in the little mailbox.

I don’t know why you would need to mail the purchase receipt since it’s yours to keep. They only need the Pablo form that has the barcode on it.

I also take a picture of every single Pablo form before dropping it off it so I can use it as a reference.

This exactly! Pablo green just means you don’t see an officer. Still needs to mailed. Always take photo of Pablo receipts for reference or if delays in credit.

I have been told it isnt necessary to mail the Pablo forms any longer however I still do (never sure if that is accurate information and I dont need the Pablo form anyway). I also take a photo of the Pablo form and the green sign too haha. Do not send in your purchase receipt. This is not needed for detaxe anyway. You may need the receipt at customs when you return to your home country. And of course you need receipt should anything arise with your bag and for insurance purposes too. So you definitely want to hold on to that.
Congrats on getting a bag!

Ladies,
I have just done the Pablo machine at Nice airport and also stopped at the Custom office (right next to the machines and since there was no line... I stopped by and asked the officer if I did everything correctly. He was very pleasant and politely helped me check in his computer, which he could already see the forms I scanned, and told me there is NO NEED to send the forms as he can see in the system all the data (what I bought, payment etc)!
So he told me to just keep the forms for my record and check/track online my tax return progress! :)

So ladies no more mailing the forms!
