And I'm guessing those will be up on ebay before the day is out using stock pics. i just checked and there's already one listed now, although that seller must have obtained one in advance from Coach because it shows the actual doll......Coach should have imposed limits on the number someone can purchase to try and prevent that from happening....
I totally agree.

Some of them are showing "10 available", so in other words the reseller just logged on this morning and put ten of them (at least) in their cart. And are now flipping them for a profit to rubes on ebay. For some reason this whole thing makes me feel gross, like it's just a yucky cash grab instead of a cool doll for kids to play with or Coach enthusiasts to admire.

I never would have thought it was aimed at kids. I would have thought the target audience is Coach collectors and Barbie collectors.

I guess so. But it's a doll. A barbie doll. A toy. I'm assuming the arms and legs move? It could potentially be played with.

Though I guess realistically most of them will just sit in their boxes forever, "mint" "NIB", never to be taken out or played with by a little girl. Which makes me think, what's the point? It's like a handbag that just sits in a closet forever with the tags attached.

you and me,both! i really don't think this is "intended" for child's play.

I'm sure this is intended for collectors. I am a huge coach fan (for me) and not a huge Barbie fan (for my girls). I definitely intend for my girls to play with this one. I love that this doll has dark hair like my little ones and is dressed and carrying a bag like I would! (Okay, maybe I do not look like this most of the time but is not completely implausible for me to look that nice at work). This is a huge improvement from the Barbies they have been gifted--all with blonde hair and skimpy clothes!

i understand what you are saying but just because it is a plastic toy doesn't mean that it's purpose is to be played with by someone's little girl. a collector would see value in having something that has not been touched and remains in pristine condition.

People collect stamps and never mail anything with them. People collect coins and never spend them. Different things have aesthetic appeal to different people. They are enjoyed in the same way that art is enjoyed.

Yeah but that's how collector's items work :)

Yeah, this Barbie was not meant for children to play with. I don't think there's anything wrong with allowing a child to play with this Barbie if you choose to, but she was designed to be a collector's item, hence the price.

Well, to some people, what's the point of having more than one or two bags? I'm not trying to criticize you, but doll collectors are just like purse collectors. To many doll collectors, you don't take the doll out of the box. That's how you keep the doll looking nice, and that's how you display them. (To some, that's how you keep the value of the doll if you ever intend to sell, especially if it's special or limited edition. You'll get a lot more money if the doll is in mint, brand new, and in the box than if the doll needs TLC.) It's kind of like how we tend to baby our bags and take good care of them while some women just don't care. Just because you see it as a plastic toy, that doesn't mean that's how a doll collector sees it.

Well, I know that I won't play with it per se (and I have a little boy who likes Legos right now), but it's definitely coming out of the box and going up on my handbag shelving unit for display.

Mint/NIB be damned. LOL.
