I haven't been banned, but I usually return to store within a day or two of receiving the items purchased online. I wonder if they track time to return. That might address some of the reseller and used merchandise concerns.

Ditto; or I'll mail something back the next day if it doesn't fit. I never keep anything longer than a week.

I live in fear of this happening to me. I have probably made ~$2k in returns to Nordstrom so far this year. That said, I have purchased and kept a lot, but I remain in fear. I have 2 different size feet, which they will break the pair for. Which means I automatically have to buy 2 pairs and return 1. I hope whatever system they use accounts for their policy of breaking these pairs!

I used to work in loss prevention for the company, they rarely ever do that unless you're actually doing anything shady (fraudulent returns, undeniable proof you're reselling, etc). They want to make sure before they do anything like that, otherwise they risk losing legit customers. When we had training they would talk about the willingness at times to sell shoes in separate sizes as a pair. I don't know if you've mentioned that to sales associates and if they've offered it. Maybe that was a rare thing they did, but it was mentioned as an example of exemplary customer service. So don't worry :) I return cosmetics often enough, but never had a problem. At least with shoes they'll just send them to the rack as refurbs.

They actually do this? I have the same problem-my feet are a size different and no one has ever offered this to me?

Well I don't know if it's a common practice thing or a hey employees, here's an example of awesomeness! You can tell them someone who used to work there told you and see it that works. Are you a regular with one associate? To be honest, my local nordstrom has half a team of pretty awful associates, so they're not all great

I've never returned anything I've bought in-store. Online is different- sizing, color, style, etc. can be off when you see a picture on a web. But at a store you have a chance to try on, hold an item, etc.

I always advocate waiting a day before purchasing something. Weighing the pros and cons and then purchasing (or not) is better than returning something because you've changed your mind.
Yeah I agree, online is a different story. But you would be surprised by the amount of people who spend 1-3 hours in a store, buy a couple thousand worth of products and return it the next day due to buyers remorse. It's a complete waste of time for both the shopper and the SA.

I see how people could do that, but honestly, if you just have a little patience and wait a day, you'd be surprised by what you do (and do not) end up buying...that's gotta be a pain for the SA for sure!

Just wanted to share I got a letter from Bloomies today and I am PRETTY pissed off. I buy ALL my clothes at Bloomies and spend over $15k a year with them, lately I have returned a few items, I returned two Chanel sneakers, WOC, and a few clothing items all within a day or two of receiving it everything brand new with tags. I love Bloomies but I am at a point where I might just go to Saks for everything.

Oh no, did they ban you???

doesn't seem to me like that is a lot of returns...? Wow.

They didn't ban me they just sent a "nice letter" asking why I had done the returns because quality and customer service is the primary goal and wanted to know if they did anything wrong. I think I'll close my Bloomies account and pay it off. I like Bloomies but I also love Saks and Neimans

Oh wow, that's definitely still on the rude side. I don't blame you! I would do the same if I got a similar letter.

I don't think I would be offended by that. I would tell them why I did the returns.

For example, if they were online purchases, a reason for returning would be merchandise not as expected, didn't like quality, fit, etc.

If the reason was you changed your mind, that might not be as comfortable to explain. (Depending on how you feel about it. Sometimes I tell SAs in advance if I'm likely to return something based on my past experiences with online ordering. Then I ask if that's ok.)

I could see their wanting to minimize returns and identify their own problems so they can be fixed. It's like taking a survey.

However, a better way for them to get the info would be for you to check a "reason for return" choice box on a return form.

But I didn't read the letter. :shrugs:

If you are spending $15K there, it may have been an honest effort by them to retain you as a customer.

(I don't have much experience with Bloomingdales. I only ordered once online from them and we don't have stores locally.)

I have made one and only one return to Bloomies (bought 1 piece of clothing online and returned it in the store because it did not fit right), and they treated me very, very poorly. They made me stand there while they made multiple phone calls and referred to me on the phone as if I were not standing there right in front of them at the Customer Service desk. I just won't shop with them anymore. I think they forget that, as consumers, we have many choices.

Did you know they were owned by Macys?

Whenever I have a problem with a store, I do a little research to see what other stores are owned by the same company.

EDIT: Just did a little more research. Macy's owns a lot of stores I used to love to shop at. :shrugs: Maybe there are not so many choices after all (except online).
