As the original poster of the thread this was the exact same problem I had when purchasing! Between these two sizes. My arms used to hurt in the 36 at first, I could do it up but could not really love my arms but it did loosen up. That size then became faulty so I was able after 6 months to return it and opted for the bigger 38. Whilst the 38 is more comfortable it doesn’t quite clinch in at the waist the same, though I wouldn’t buy a jacket for this price that I can’t do up so if you’re unable to close it yet the bigger size IMO.

You can always have the bigger one taken in a little bit at specific spots like the waist or sleeve width to make it fit like the original.
Just make sure you use a very good seamstress. If you’ve never tried her before, don’t give her your Balmain jacket first, unless you took the jacket to Balmain. Fix another jacket as a ‘tester’ first and if that’s fixed to your liking, then go ahead with the other.

I think if it’s tight around the arms and you can’t button it, it’s too small. Even if you won’t wear it buttoned up it just won’t fit the right way, you risk ripping the blazer if the arms are too snug and it’ll never be as comfortable as the right size. Sleeve length is very easy to fix if the 38 is a bit long. I think the best think you should do is go to a store, try a 38 on, compare and decide.
Hiya! Yea I’m planning on stopping by the store and try the 38 to be sure, my concern is mainly with the shoulder pads being too far out ... lol! Thanks!

Hi Nikki, between sizes is the worst right?! Here’s some pics of me with the 36, what you think? I didn’t have make up on so excuse the emoti-face ... hahahha

I’m sure it’ll be balanced out by everything else and it might look less extreme because it won’t be too tight on you. Right now the shoulder might look overly exaggerated because the sleeve is tight in the arm. Once the sleeves are bigger, the shoulder won’t look as big.

That is true! I didn’t even think of it like that ... Hahaha .. thanks!! Hope I can head to the store soon :)

Hi! The 36 is too small for you. You can’t button it up at all and it is pulling at the sleeves too much. I think 38 is going to be a truer fit for you and as someone else said, the shoulders will balance out the arms because it will be the right size for you. Never shy away from alterations: it will turn your jacket from something that is okay into something that is tailor made for you. I bought a 36 jacket and have room to move with ease despite it being a very tailored jacket. If you are unable to exchange this jacket you will need to find a good seamstress who can let out the jacket to give you the room you need. But do try on a 38 in the store. They are awesome blazers!

Hi!

I am ready to invest in a blazer. I see there are two options for the buttons. What is everyone’s preference? The Lion or the Balmain buttons? Or, does it really not matter?

The modeling pictures here are phenomenal! I really want one know!

I dont think the buttons matter as much as choosing the right fabric, cut and size. Also, the classic style seems to have lion and coats and some of the longer satin lapel blazers have the crest buttons. Either way, best to try them on to find the right fit.

I ordered two blazers in NAP and one (denim) came with lion gold buttons and the other (blue wool) with silver crest ones. The denim is the classic model whereas the blue seems to be a bit shorter, don't know if that makes any difference.

Btw, they are both size 36 but the denim one fits just fine, whereas I can hardly pass my arm through the sleeve of the blue one. It is as if the lining was gathered at the wrist, I have very fine wrist and it is supper tight, very bizarre. I think I am keeping the denim, but I noted that one of the buttons is badly sown, so that it loops downwards, I will have to take it to a seamstress. All in all, I am not sure the quality has not declined... what are your thoughts? (I only have one other blazer from years back).
