Balenciaga city bag dilemma

Hey my friend, I'm not in disagreement with you. Daniel Lee is busy doing much the same with Tomas Maier's designs over at BV. But there are many who love the longer strap and the way the City has been "modernized". I feel like such a dinosaur...your rouge vif will show up, there was a link to a nice one (expensive) just posted the other day, did you see it?

I think the City and the moto jacket in a way were to Bal what the flap bags and jackets are to Chanel, very shortsighted of Bal to discard the only classics they had.

Sweet Muchstuff, I've seen the pics of you in your classic Bal bags and motos, nothing dinosaur about that, classic rock chic to the limit  I've written odes to the Bal moto jacket on here before but it's truly the best take on it.

(That Rouge Vif has been listed for a long time, together with a couple of others. I'm only looking for newer City:s now because even if the leather might be better on the oldies, the details like edge coating etc are better on the newer ones, imo. I have no patience any longer with repairing Bals, it's enough with the upkeep!)

So what exactly are you looking for? Just curious to see where you landed style and season-wise. I have a mix of oldies and newer bags like the Bazar and the everyday tote.

I probably wouldn't buy a bag older than from 2010/11, and it would have to be in like new condition (puddling excluded, of course). And I would read every single thread I could find here on tPF on the bag/year/season before buying. As you may remember, I don't have a huge collection so every bag counts a lot. I think it's different for those who have more impressive bag collections, new and old. It's more of a collecting bag thing then.

Anyway, I came very late to the City it-bag frenzy so I'm not speaking from years of experience with these bags as much as from just personal opinion of the few I now own. Although I will add I've had a lot of experience with an impressive string of City bag SNAD:s :crybaby: :amuse:

Have you posted any recent pics of your current Bal collection?

Not really, I kinda post bag by bag. I’ve really branched out brand-wise and my Bal collection is smaller than it was.
I know you like pristine bags. I’m not quite as particular, I’ll put up with some signs of use and age if it’s fairly minimal. I actually love bags that are somewhat broken in for me already.

I've seen some of your beautiful Bottegas and Chanels.

I haven't been here for a while so I just felt I missed you all and the discussions we had here, and I thought of Kendie. We all had some fun discussions. I remember when someone "outed" Gvasalia as a Georgian chav in a late night thread going pretty south  :crybaby::lol:Good times!

Gvasalia needs to churn out some gorgeous classic Bals to get this party started for real again.

Yeah it’s been pretty slow on the Bal forum. There’s really nothing I’ve seen from the current collection that I’d be hunting for...

today I carried my City Costco shopping. I usually handle carry it but had to use the shoulder strap. I thought at first it was going to slip but it was quite comfortable. I like the look of it better hand carried but the shoulder strap worked fine for me. and it felt light. (I didn't have my cosmetics bag in there, which helped)

I think this is the one. And remember, it was late at night and no actual Georgians or Russians got hurt in the process of making that thread

The whole thread is worth a read. I think clevercat said it best: "Welp, my 13 year love affair with Balenciaga, it just shrivelled up and died...." :crybaby::lol:

to each his/her own but (and I am much less experienced than some others here) I think you're missing out by excluding some of the older bags, in terms of leather

After letting go of all my City (because the shoulder strap didn't work for me), now I want a City with the logo strap. I really regret not pouncing on that bag sold by an influencer (pretty sure the bag's auth!) for 1k aud. But at that time, I thought I have a Velo, so it'd be redundant.
