Bags You Thought Would Be Classics?

My thoughts as well. Fashion always circles, I wouldn't be suprised seeing discontinued bags loved and remade again.

You are soooo right. Some people ask me to date their Gucci abs and I have to ask them to show me the inside so I can tell if for example it's a version from the 1950s, 1980s or 00s

Honestly, I think the Muse would still be going strong had Slimane not discontinued it in his frenzy to mark his territory. Dome shaped satchels will always be a classic shape. Is an LV Alma dated? (I still see people carrying Almas).

I also think the Bayswater is a classic style and judging from the outrage over on the Mulberry board I suspect that the new version will become the "New Coke" of the collection, especially in a more fashion-conservative place like Britain.

Alma is definitely a classic!

I'm still long for the Stella by Marc Jacobs. I don't know why he discontinue it and later bring it back with an added strap :( I have mine from 2003 and still love it.

Dior Gaucho. A distinctive and exciting design that seemed like it might have real staying power. I wonder if it was just too associated with Galliano to be continued. I had one, loved it, sold it, and will probably get another.

I don't have a bag to add to the list but I'll say that I definitely consider whether a bag will have staying power before I buy it. I care about being fashionable but don't have the time or interest to follow trends. So I want the best of both worlds. I want to buy a bag I'm crazy about AND know it will be a fashionable option both now and down the road - say 5-10 years+.

That keeps me from buying intriguing bags that I'm not sold on like the Fendi monster or Loewe puzzle. It's just not worth "marrying" a bag that I'm likely to only want for a relatively short "fling" LOL!

I don't think I'd ever be able to tell a future classic straight off the bat. There are, however, several ones that I never though would be classics! These include bags like AW Rocco, 3.1 Pashli, Bal biker styles, MQ De Manta, LV Neverfull and several others that just didn't seem to have what it takes.
I think this speaks volumes about my fashion sense (or lack thereof) and very little of the designs themselves.

Ooh wait. I do have an offering. I thought the Chanel Boy bag would be an instant classic and it seems that it will be. Thank goodness, jowever, that no one bought that hideous girl bag though. <shudder>

I own the following bags that I feel are classics:
Gucci Bamboo Tote (large)
Gucci Snakeskin Lady Lock Bamboo handle
YSL Muse (patent with Calfhair top)
Fendi Peekaboo (large) - calf hair patchwork
LV Alma PM - black patent epi leather
Saint Laurent Sac Du Jour - black (original large)**This one truly is a classic because they stopped making this size after 2 years. This exact bag is now (amazingly) listed on their website as a man's bag and only black

I tend to only invest in bags that are timeless. I also own many "for the moment" bags such as MCM. I love MCM, but they are ever changing and youthful so not many classics there. They are quite affordable to most and they have very generous sales. MCM boutiques are popping up all over the U.S.
I truly believe only a choice few of the Gucci bags made from 2015-present will make the "classic" list. I will pick carefully as I do not spend 3k+ on trendy bags. But they are stunning!

Celine Luggage bags - the hype had died down but the bags seem to be a staple of Celine and come out in different variations each season. But a lot of people are over it.

Givenchy Antigona - seems like a classic and is going strong so far but time will tell.

Definitely the AW Rocco and 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli. The hype around these two bags back in 2013-2014 was just surreal! It seemed like everyone had to have one, and everyone was raving about them, especially the Pashli! I remember that the Rocco was popular because of Alexander Wang's collab with H&M, and the Pashli was popular because of Phillip Lim's collab with Target. Nowadays, I don't see anyone with those bags anymore.
