Bags you don't get

Fun thread! I love that it’s lighthearted and no one is taking offense and creating drama.

I agree with so many things here, I want to go back and “like” every post! But especially, I do not get:

- teeny tiny micro mini bags. What on earth is the point?

- Goyard. It just looks so flimsy to me, and not expensive.

- Fur monsters and plain fur poofs as bag charms. Sorry, but what is this about? It feels like the fashion industry’s attempt to make it OK for grown women to carry tiny stuffed animals with them. Sorry, I just can’t.

- Totally agree with the person who said No to handles that won’t fold down. I don’t need to be poked in the ribs by my bag!

- Gucci logo = Cover Girl logo. Now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it.

- The LV collection that looks like artist prints on canvas bags. They look like the totes you’d buy as a souvenir in a museum store. Not expensive looking, or particularly pretty, IMO.

Also, though, a few things I thought I hated and changed my mind:

- Longchamp le Pliage. Soooooo common where I live, as well as plain and shapeless. But also, lightweight, inexpensive, comfortable shoulder handles, and a myriad of colors to choose from. I’ll take a few of them over spending $$$ on the LV Neverfull anyday (and I do get the appeal of the Neverfull. I just don’t want one.).

- Givenchy Pandora. Stock photos always make it look like a box. Finally tried one and loved it, bought it, and returned it two days later because it weighed a ton. But I do get the appeal. It’s a very unique design.

- Hermes Evelyne. Again, I HATED this bag. Hated the look, especially the perforated H. Then I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about and tried one on. I was converted! It’s such a practical, easy bag, in scrumptious leather and the world’s most comfortable canvas strap. I love it (and wear the perforated H against my body so it’s pretty under the radar).

I also don't get LV epi leather (though I know many adore it). I realize it's coated to be weather resistant (yay), but my hands are used to to high quality saddle leathers and epi just feels too plastic-y and the embossed texture does not appeal. Crazy, 'cuz I love patent which is also coated leather and croc embossed (just different). Glad bag manufacturers indulge all our varying tastes!

I'm with you! I also don't really like embossed leathers like Hermes' epsom leather or Prada's Saffiano. Way too stiff and plastic-ey. I love soft and supple leathers.

Balenciaga is the bag love of my life, but I don't get why the bunny ears zippers were designed like that. It's difficult to open it with one hand!

I LOVE the bunny ears!! I think the floppy was of them make the bag so much fun to use. But yes it is a bit difficult to open so I just leave my bal unzipped and I keep my wallet in the zip pocket so it's protected from pick-pocketers.

Lol! Loved your post and everyone else's too, this thread is really fun. Totally agree that the j'dior bags are kinda tacky. I would love to get a Lady Dior or Diorissimo at some point though.
Yep, Demna is really making a mess of Balenciaga, this bag is literally a laundry bag! I can’t stand these!

There are a few bags I just cannot get behind. I truly do not get Givenchy antigona or pandora bags, I couldn’t even explain why, I just find them unattractive.

The Dior j’dior bags make me want to hurl, just tackiness, I’m with you all the way on this one @Sparkletastic i just do not understand the direction that MGC is taking Dior in!?! :confused1:

I’m also perplexed by the micro bag trend, I like a bag to actually be able to carry my possessions and not to have to rely on my pockets! The worst offender was probably the Fendi micro bags and I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but the Chanel mini, it’s just pointless to me and I am a massive Chanel fan.

On the subject of Chanel my final word is this Gabrielle bag.... why Karl why!!? So over engineered and try hard.

Really enjoying this thread! It’d be boring if we all liked the same things so it’s interesting to see what makes s go HUH!?!

I thought the same thing when I saw them!!!!! I just didn't want to come out and say it! Girl...
lolol, the first time I saw it I got scurred :shocked::shocked::shocked:

Sorry. I DID get a little carried away.
What I was trying to get at is that designers fall in love with “retro” and never think that the modern woman doesn’t live in way that so many beautiful bags are useful.

oh I hope you didn't take it as me being snarky...hell I just didn't know. I seriously meant thank you for giving us that perspective. We have to remember most of these brands were founded 100+ years ago [or nearly 100] so times were very different back then.

Here are some of my "don't get it" bags:

- See through plastic bags, like the Furla candy. I get that it's cute, and would be fun to carry around, but I sure as heck don't want the entire world seeing the contents of my bag!

- Denim bags. Now I have an old one that I've worn in high school, but I don't think I can purchase one again, especially with a jeans outfit. I think a nice leather bag can dress you up, like a nice pair of leather heels!

- Agreed with the Goyard print comment, it's not my style.

- The Gucci graffiti looking bags. I own a few Gucci pieces but I can't see myself buying one with a graffiti like print on it!

- Same goes with LV's painting collection. Granted it's not graffiti, but... yeah.

AGREED on all!

Thank you! The Gucci Marmont line is so tacky (in my humble insignificant opinion). Ugh the heart!! And the flashy GG. I can’t.

I hate it, I also hate the Chanel CC that is just as big, the HUGE LV on many of their leather bags, and the LV/GG/CC mono bags. I just hate obviously branded bags on ALL brands. *gag*

I also don't get LV epi leather (though I know many adore it). I realize it's coated to be weather resistant (yay), but my hands are used to to high quality saddle leathers and epi just feels too plastic-y and the embossed texture does not appeal. LV bags annoy me lol. I do like their uhhhh cappuccino bag I believe it's called, but that huge gaudy LV is annoying. I don't think they have a bag that is not largely and gaudily LV branded. I HATE that. and from LV owners, it seems like their quality has significantly decreased over the years, while their prices have had dramatic increases. such a shame for LV consumers.
