ARGH! The tip over factor is exactly why I hate open top totes. I'm looking for a tote and have given up on a fully zip tote so I'm looking for one with a zip center section. They are harder than you'd think to find. But I have to have some security and fewer worries with.

For my work tote I use the humble but perfect for me Kate Spade Goldcoast Maryanne. It is an open bag and has the centre zip compartment. I have it in the large size in Black, Almond, Copper, Patten leather Almond, and in small size in black - it is just perfect for me.

That Gucci is pretty bad.

I think this trend is mostly over but - perforated bags. For me, that is a no. What a way to ruin good leather. Even the popular Balenciaga black out is too perforated for me.
That honestly looks like a fake tryhard bag that’s made in China—no offense, I still buy contemporary brand’s bags that are made in China
Yeah perforated bag is such a big no for me as well. That’s ruining the leather and looks very not-luxurious.

I love and lust after the Givenchy Antigona, but I also just don’t GET it! It’s so expensive and I get that part of that is quality, but also the shape is so easily replicated. To me, the price tag and the simple design don't add up! I know simple can be good, but for me it's not $2000 good x)

Gucci Dionysus bag. Especially the one mixed with bright colors and all the bits on it. Example:

Like, y tho -_- it’s like the GG print isn’t loud enough. The plain one still kinda makes sense, although I kinda think it’s a bit tacky. Prefer the Marmont family, with two loud GG’s but that’s all. The rest is plain.

I'm not a fan of ANY monogram, but the embellishments just make it gag worthy. I AM however a fan of Dionysus. I have the python bamboo top handle [pic below, bag on lower right] without the gaudy mono, embellishments or ever the "GG" just wanted to point out all Dionysus are not such a gaudy mess, c'mon Gucci, u gotta do better, I am a Gucci lover true to heart!1229171222a.jpg

some of the limited chanel bags.. photos included .. I don’t get the jeans material or some other „cheaper“ materials on high end bags.. this doesn’t fit to them in my opinion..
also the chanel gst is not my style
.. they should have done the CC smaller.. it looks weird having a big CC on the bag.. also the bags where is written the whole brand name in big letters are funny .. like hey if you don’t know which brand it is here you can read it from far away..
yes lv handbags are also recognized but at least they have a beautiful monogram pattern with flowers / checkboard

and by the way I also don’t get the lv grafity handbags where louis vuitton is written all over haha

these mentioned bags are not luxurious and not worth the price tag for me

and last monogram pattern shoes.. I love monogram but not on shoes or clothes except shawl IMG_1514995478.050354.jpgIMG_1514995270.239927.jpgIMG_1514995285.745211.jpgIMG_1514995301.162075.jpgIMG_1514995315.614721.jpgIMG_1514995325.042495.jpgView attachment 3923340

In terms of aesthetics, I don’t get hobo bags. I find them so ugly, especially that BV one.. in my head, it just looks like a ball sack with a hole in it (no offense to anyone that likes them :flowers:). For functionality, I don’t get designer backpacks. Regular backpacks are for lugging around heavy books/items and are meant to be durable, so it feels weird seeing backpacks in delicate leathers and hardware that can get scratched. Also I absolutely don’t get the LV Palm Springs hype.. especially the mini one. I love mini bags as much as the next girl but a mini backpack is just so strange to me :confused1:
There are other bags that I dislike but I can see their appeal to others.. hobo bags and tiny backpacks; I just don’t get it.
I also hated the Palm Springs mini until I got one now I  it. It fits a lot more than I thought.

The Chanel GST looks dated to me. I'm not a fan of the huge CC logo, either, although I think the design and look were reflective of the time period it was made in. Funny because I used to love that bag way back when, but now I don't like it.

I'm actually not a fan of the Chanel Deauville, either. I can tolerate logos to a certain extent, but to have the full name of the brand in large letters is a bit too much for me. Gucci sometimes does that with their clothes and I can't understand it, either.

And I don't like LV shoes at all for the same reasons you specified. Is it really necessary to have the LV monogram canvas on your shoes???

I love your exotic Guccis including your Dionysus!

That being said, I have been waiting for "my" Dionysus. I love the shape and the quality of these bags. But, I don't like mono. I don't like the more delicate nature of nubuck for a flap. And, I've been flummoxed by the success of the gaudy doodad encrusted ones. It's just too much of a lot of elements that don't even look good on their own. Those bags are going to look sooooo dated so quickly.

Regarding the Chanel GST. I completely agree with you and others on how dated (and dare I say a little tacky) the big C's look. But I think(?) the bag was designed at a time when people WANTED logos - and the bigger the better. I tried to find an original issue date but couldn't. Does someone else know? I'm also guessing the dated styling was one reason Chanel discontinued the tote. IMHO it would have been nice to see it get a modern redesign. But, I think it was smart for them to at minimum cease production.

And re: the other materials. I agree with you. I'm not paying thousands for a blue jean / flannel / vegan leather / plastic / tissue paper bag. But, Chanel is known for tweed which is why they offer tweed bags. I've seen some beautiful ones but, they seem to age badly. That, plus my style isn't even a little bit preppy, means I can't make myself seriously consider one.

Moving away from style and taste, I have a "don't get it" that really is a head scratcher for me on function.

I don't get totes with two sets of handles. IMG_3972.JPG
I think this Chanel box tote is adorable. But it has two sets of handles. If I were to use the longer ones the shorter ones would stick up oddly. If I fill up the tote, I wouldn't want to support the weight on NYE forearm with the shorter arm carry straps. So what's the deal here?

Some bags make the situation worse. The short handles are too short and the long strap turns the tote into an awkward shoulder bag. IMG_3973.JPG
Who wants a lot of bag and weight flopping around your hip??

I just want ONE set of straps that allow for a comfortable shoulder carry (including over a coat) but not so much that I lose control of the bag as it whips around me. IMG_3974.JPGIMG_3976.JPG

I was trying to look for the issue date, too; I remember trying it on at the boutique in 2007-8. At the time it was the only Chanel bag I liked.:girlsigh: I'm guessing it was released in the late nineties or early 2000s.

I thought Chanel released the Classic Shopping Tote to replace it...? To me that one looks way better than the GST.

Did this bag not do well or was it just a limited release?

Looking back, I remember some bags that were considered popular then that no one would bother looking at now. Not just Chanel, but LV, Gucci, Coach, etc...because of that, I could never get into any bag that was too embellished or "Limited Edition" because it would just look so dated after a few years.

Random question, but anyone change their minds about any bags while going through this thread? I mentioned the Lady Dior bag in my initial response as a bag I don't get, and then I snooped through the Dior forum out of curiosity and voila... plenty of people pull it off! I think I was secretly fascinated by it or something. And of course it's out of my price range, probably karma for poking fun at it lol.
