Bags you DIDN'T buy?

It's the end of 2023, so what are the bags you didn't buy this year? What bags did you talk yourself out of, and why?

For me:

1. Dior D'Joy bag - I like the different strap options, but I realized Dior wasn't my style. The size I was looking at also wouldn't hold a book or a kindle. I also already have enough top handle bags.

2. Celine Belt Bag - I think it's too big for my daily needs and it wouldn't get used much. The clasp also seems fussy. These are the same reasons why I talked myself out of YSL Sac De Jour and Celine Trapeze bag.

3. Demellier New York Tote - I like the look, but I think I was looking at it because I wanted an Hermes "dupe" or alternative. I'm also very short, so a big tote would totally overwhelm my frame. Plus I have a Polene Cyme - I only need one tote bag.

I bought too many in 2023 lol
-Mulberry Lily: didn’t get this year (bought too much in 2023, need to hibernate for a bit) but I am attracted to its low-key luxurious look (in place of similar Chanel flap vibe). Lily is still on my radar for 2024

I feel like I would not have to be so ‘precious’ with it (like my Chanel bags). And to be honest (not to go into politics/crime statistics/etc, I also don’t want to feel like I have a big ‘bull’s eye’ on me (ie wearing in the city). Hence the attraction to more understated yet sturdy bags.

Usually, if I’m capable of talking myself out of a bag, I didn’t really want the bag. I just want the feeling it invokes or the imaginary life where it would make sense.

The worst is when I’ve managed to successfully talk myself out of a thing - and then someone gives it to me as a gift. And I have to figure out how I feel. Usually, I feel foolish for indicating a desire in the first place.

That being said, my one successful rejection was

(Drumroll please)

Hermes Rio clutch: I have more than enough clutches, and buying one for “travel scarf storage” would only work if my style of traveling was dramatically different.

There have been more than a few that I’ve had obsessions with, from fleeting to persistent, but I’m glad I didn’t buy:

Any Chanel seasonal bag, because I don’t use the ones I already have, and I have way too many

The LP extra pocket, even though the shearling and cashmere versions are cute, I don’t need them

The Longchamp Xtra - price too high for what it is

LV Capucines - price also too high for what it is

Attaching pictures of bags I looked at in Paris but did not buy. They were all great, but just not exactly what I was looking for at the time. That said, may get one or two of them this year.

Bags I talked myself out of last year:

Demellier New York Tote - It looks cool and reminds me of a cooler Birkin, but totes look massive on me. They look good on skinny, tall models, but I am neither skinny nor tall.
YSL sac de jour, Celine Nano Luggage, Celine Belt Bag - I don't need heavy or medium to larger bags since I barely use the medium bags I have.
