"Bag" vs. "bag on YOU"

I think there's a difference too. Sure, the bag is beautiful, but what is it doing when its out of its dustbag? It's on your shoulder, or your arm, etc., and I think that you should think it looks good on you (does that make any sense?). But don't worry about what your husband says - keep it if you think it looks good on you.

I totally get it! For me, the bag must be both great and look great on me. I tried the paddy (in several colors)...liked the bag...did not like the bag on me. I purchased the large bouler paddy recently with the double zippers (different shape)...love the bag and feel good wearing it!

I totally get that a great bag can just look "wrong" or "not right on you." There's something about proportions.... A tiny bag can't be carried by everyone. If the bag doesn't look good on, you're likely to use it less--then what's the point? Return it, is my solution :p

I'm sooo glad you posted you posted this thread! I have the same problem! I got (one of the last) Kooba Sienna's in Cognac and I love the bag in pictures, I love the bag hanging on a door knob just looking at it, but when I put it on, it's just not me. i'm just not boho chic enough. I hate to send things back and rarely ever do, I got it on sale, but I can return it, but, I just don't know! I'm already using a black bag for Winter and will swiitch to a pearl botkier next month, so I wouldn't use it till fall anyway, but, I don't know what else I would get. I guess if I could be good, I could save for a high end bag, but it was on sale and I'm totally fine with buying somthing and saving it till next year to use it.

While it is true that if you love it no matter what you should keep it, it sounds like you may be asking yourself if you do love it. Your husband may have raised a question you did not think about, that is a valid question. It is true that everything seems to look better on models, that's why they are models. So, forget models, think about what type of person, (normal person), may look better with that handbag or which handbag may look better on your body type. For example, the oversized YSL Muse bag is just too huge on me. Looks like luggage. Or, the Dior Double Gaucho, also too big, but when my bigger build friend tried it on it looked right on her. Size is an issue. Then there is style. I think that on older women slouchy distressed bags may look "too young". Pick a bag that matches your maturity level, or if not your age, your style of dressing. Though Betsey Johnson is an older woman I can't see her carrying a Hermes Kelly, however she may look right with a Fendi Spy. Your bag should look right on your body type and reflect your personality/clothes first, then your age.

Don't buy something just because every hot teen has one, and don't return a bag just because your husband does not like it. (Unless of course, you are like me, and if my boyfriend does not like it I don't feel hot in it.) Truth is that men don't understand 95% of bag trends. I think that is because they are uneffected by culture in this area, and they tend to see things plainly as "beautiful and sexy" or "not beautiful and sexy". They don't see "Chloe" or "Fendi" they just see what is hot and what isn't in their view. For that reason I think that while you should not do something just because a man says so, they do have a valid opinion worth listening too and considering.

I totally understand your train of thought. Some bags seem to be set up for different figured ladies. I tried on an LV Recital and it just made my taller frame look stout and my curves look errm chunky.

It's a shame :(

I had a similar experience with a Fendi Spy the other day. I loved to look at it. It was gorgeous!!!! However, the first time I took it out to use it I didn't like the way it looked on me.:sad2: I'm only 5'1" and it was way to much bag IMO. I just didn't like the way it looked on me, so sadly it went back to Saks.

I totally think that the size and height of a person can impact how well a bag looks when you are wearing it. For instance, I am 5"1, and no matter how many short girls (MK Olsen) carry huge bags, I just feel uncomfortable everytime I try one on because I feel like it doesn't fit my body. However, I think this is all relative to the person. I know that as a short girl I like smaller bags, but there are tons of short girls out there who wear larger bags and look very natural. To some extent, I think it is how confident you are about your style and this bag that will determine how it looks on you. If you love a bag, you will find a way to make it work because generally a bag that you love will fit your style and your look. So, I think the main thing you should look at is how well the bag fits with you, your look, wardrobe, and style. You mentioned that the person who gave you a second opinion said that this bag didn't fit with your typical style, and that may be an important thing to look at. If it isn't your style then you will most likely never wear it!

I DO know what you mean - but, please read this:

I bought an ice blue city from a great gal on tFS. I got it and thought I was going to cry - it seemed HUGE!!!! I could not return it and felt very deflated - well, I used it once and all of a sudden it is my FAVORITE   bag. I cannot stop using it - and now I am going to sell my smaller B-bags on Ebay because I am so smitten with the City size -

My point - I thought it looked silly on me - I thought it looked like a silly, blue, briefcase - but, now I love it!!!!

of course, you do not want to keep something you will not use; but, first impressions can be decieving - that's all. :amuse:

Good luck with your decision. :D
