Bag snob....

Am I a bag snob? NO, I don't think so. I do agree that I won't carry or buy a bag if it is not of good quality, but I don't disregard a bag just because of it's name brand. I won't carry most of Dooney & BOurke's merchandise because I feel that their designs are too kiddy for me, but if they were to create a bag in plain leather that I liked, I would examine it and then make my decision from there.

I agree with you Nathansgirl :)..but I am nowhere being a mother yet, so I can't say much about that. Sometimes you see children in stores that have had candy and then they smear it all over the clothes there...

Ladystara, where did you get your signature from? I love it.:flowers:

I suppose that doesn't apply solely to bags. As human beings, we all love to get at least something of equivalent value of what we own now or better.

Or quality.

I've tried 'down grading' but I can feel the difference in quality of the materials and see the difference in quality of the make.

As I'm not into logos, I can happily 'down grade' to a no-name/lower end designer bag, but I can't easily drop below a certain level of quality, anymore.

I completely forgot who I got the logo from..it was a boardie though..she was kind enough to walk me through how to get the signature working. I think it was Zzuliyta??

i definitely am. I just listed my coach's and dooney's on ebay- these were the bags I use to L-O-V-E up until I got my first LV about a year and a half ago. i'm kinda bummed by it though. I know I will not get nearly as much as I paid for these purses.. but then again, I need to make room for new ones and I might as well try to make some kinda money off them rather than just let them sit in my closet.

I hate to admit it but I'm turning into one, too! However, I would definitely still carry bags designed by our local Filipino designers who make gorgeous quality bags, like Aranaz and Rafe.

i have to admit, i would not buy (right now) a Coach or a Dooney bag... I just started with Chloe and chanel.. and i want more.. I recently bought a Hermes bag.. oh man, that is gonna kill me.. lol lol.. but I am willing to wait for that perfect time when I can get my hands on a Kelly and Birkin... and more Chanel for me.....

i'm somewhat a snob.

i just prefer quality.

does that mean i limit myself to certain brands?

no.

no brand is consistant in what they design. i mean, who thought marc jacobs was going to throw cherrys on the LV? or who knew that coach actually has a bag priced at $10,000? or who knew prada had more then just nylon bags in them?

i admit, i'm somewhat of a snob because most people who knows me knows i don't shop at places like forever 21, h&m, zara, express, etc.

but i still browse through once in awhile, because you never know when they make a "mistake" and produce something great at a cheap price!

Yikes! I guess I am a bag snob too as I haven't used any of my older bags in years! Am concentrating on buying bags that will really last and are of exceptional quality. Otherwise, I really think I'd be wasting my money....

I read this thread and laughed...primarily because I have 8 Coach, Furla and Cole Haan up for sale on ebay right now! It's not so much that I'm a bag snob, it's just that I LOVE my Gucci et al bags so much. I'd rather wear one of those than the lesser expensive ones.

Look at it this way, I would LOVE to wear a crocodile Hermes too, but just can't spend that kind of money right now. If I ever get one, I'm sure I'd rather use that one than my LV Manhattan GM which I like to use now. Bag "snobbery" is all relative I guess! :p

I bought my first expensive (expensive for me) purse last year...Dooney and Bourke. But I soon found myself wishing for something really high end. My dream was to own a chanel, so I decided to just splurge and get exactly what I wanted, instead of buying purse after purse of "almost what I want." I just got my chanel 2.55 bag on ebay for less than 1/3 of the original price, and the original owner only carried it 3 times. Of course, once I had the bag, I wanted a chanel wallet too, so I went to Neiman Marcus and got a brand new wallet. I just love how I feel carrying my chanel bags. I know I'm turning into a bag snob!

I'm not sure if I'm turning into a bag snob but there are just a few cheaper brands that I would never purchase from (like Guess or XoX, or anything you can find in a lower end department store). I don't think it's their price that turns me off, but their copycat nature and how ugly some of the bags actually look. Guess is the worse, especially since they mix several designer styles (like Coach, LV, Gucci, and Dior) all together to make something that looks outrageous and downright ugly. Since LV advertised gold leather bags, Guess made THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of gold bags. Since LV made the color monogram, Guess monograms (modelled after Coach and some other brands) turned multicolor. Since Dior made Street Chic, every Guess bag at the time had a metal plaque in front with the Guess logo on it. It offends me that Guess earns so much money from stealing ideas from designers (as do most low end brands).

I only carry designer bags now, and although this means that I have far fewer bags, I rather carry the original design that a design that was merely copied and remixed. Most of my bags are from Dior because I love their entirely different look each season (my Dior bags all look so different compared to each other), and they are very high quality. I like having fun with my fashion, and Dior is the perfect high quality line for it. Their bags also match almost every piece of mass-market clothing imaginable, making their bags very versatile (I can't imagine wearing inexpensive casual clothes with Chanel bags). I do have to admit, though, that I don't like all of their designs (some just aren't me).

Once or twice I see some fabulous bags from other designers, like Gucci's tote with a silk scarf and Fendi's B bag, but I rather save my money for Dior because Dior really does it for me and I'm not that rich.
