Bag smells like cigarette smoke!

I was thinking of ordering the sig. stripe demi today. I wanted a small bag to use for going out. Here's the thing, though. I'm not a smoker. However, I am occasionally in nightclubs that allow smoke. I ususally take an inexpensive microfiber purse with me that I can Febreeze when I get home. If I get the signature purse, will it pick up smoke smell? I would love a cute purse for going out, but I don't want one that would always reek of smoke.

Anyone have experience in this area? Thanks!

There have been a couple times when I went to my mom's house (who is a chain smoker and whose house probably smells like a nightclub :yucky:) and picked up a smoke smell on my purse - leather and signature both. Both times I took everything out of my purse the next day and let it sit and "air out" the smoke smell. Both times it came out and there was no residual smell. As long as you aren't constantly in a smoky environment I think it will come out in a day or so.

Mokoni is right. I quit smoking about a month ago and I've noticed smoke smell a lot more now-- when I go to smoky bars I have noticed that my signature stripe tote picks up a smoke smell, but by the end of the following day you can't smell it anymore, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going to be in a smoky bar every night.

I am so sensitive to smoke smell that I wouldn't bring my purse in a club. When we do go, I leave my coat outside and throw my clothes into the laundry. I just can't stand that smell.

I wouldn't chance it.

I've never had a huge problem with it. There are certain bags that I carry when I go to the casino (pretty darn smokey) and my ex-boyfriend's family smoked A LOT but I've never found it to be an issue. I always let my bags sit out, never put them in my closet or anything while they're in use, so I've never had an odor stay on them.

ditto...and an ex smoker has a NOSE for smoke smell!

I used my graphic signature swing pack in vegas (where you can smoke pretty much anywhere) and it didn't pick up the smoke smell.

I went out last weekend and carried my sig stripe wristlet. Of course everyone smelled like a smoke stack when we left, but my wristlet wasn't that bad. Anything else that I carry usually airs out in a day or so.

Good morning all. As I posted last week, I got the Medium Hamptons Carryall from eBay last week and finally took her out this weekend. It is a BEAUTIFUL bag, but I couldn't help but notice that the bag smells like cigarette smoke! I went back and looked at the listing and noticed that the seller never stated that the bag came from a 'smoke-free' home so it is my own fault for not thinking about this beforehand.

Does anybody have any good tips for getting rid of the smell? I have only tried spraying some febreeze on the outside and interior lining so far, but its not helping! I don't want to do anything that will ruin the bag. Is there anything I can do or do I just need to wait and hope that it will air out with time? TIA ladies!

put a dryer sheet inside and set it outside to air out. works like a charm.

Thanks for the suggestion, peacocky! I'm afraid to leave my bag outside though because I live in an apartment complex with a shared balcony! I'm worried it will be stolen!

Think I would get the same effect if I left it inside my house and put a fan in front of it?! :P
