Bag Limits at Different Boutiques

It's one birkin and / or kelly every six months based on the calendar year and not when you bought it. So it's January thru June and then July thru December. So theoretically you could buy a birkin on June 30th and then another one on July 1st.

:cray:

Oh really? My SA in NY told me it's 6 months from the date of your last purchase ::confused1:

I just bought a B from Madison Avenue in NYC last month and was told that it is 1 per calendar year. The strange thing is that when she looked up my name and address(I haven't bought an H bag in a boutique in the last 2 years!) she said that I could not buy one as there were too many people with my name in the system who had already purchased bags. My husband has a different last name and after looking him up, she said that he would have to purchase it! Bizarre!

Funny, I have developed relationships with 2 SAs in 2 different states in the US and one goes by the 1 Birkin per semester rule and the other by the 6 months from date of last purchase rule....so strange... Didn't know diff stores had their own rules but they def do... Bought a B in March and just got offered for July.

That whole thing sounds bizarre! How is she going to tell you that too many people with your name bought B's so YOU can't???? Doesn't everyone have their own "client number"???? With all the stories I hear about the Madison Boutique... I think they operate like they are on their own planet. Thank God for husbands ;)

I'm not too sure about your first question but for your second, in my past experience they will hold for about 2 months, maybe 3 if you are sure to be back in that time.

last year, my store didn't count my s.o. against the limit. this year, my s.a. said if ever he is not allowed to ring up my order because of the limit, he would hold it until the restriction is lifted. and he's waited a month for me to return from vacation. i'm not sure if that's H policy or merely a courtesy but if it's the latter, given that you were asked to place a special order, i assume your relationship with your sales associate is such that they would do the same thing. but why not ask your sales associate or store director so you can be sure?

I asked the same thing and was told they will hold the bag until your six month window is up. I personally find it hard to believe they would hold up a big ticket sale that long but this is Hermes we're talking about and stranger things have happened.

Additionally I was advised not to buy a birkin or kelly when I know there is an impending special order coming in. Just in case.

Thank you ladies for sharing your experience. I do plan on stopping by to see my SA this week, and just wanted to what experiences others had with regards with SOs. It does seem odd if they are willing to hold a bag for so long, but will clarify with her. Just worried what would happen if I potentially move out of country and won't be able to come back so easily to pick up the SO when it comes in. Oh well, I'm overplanning anyway. :p

Wow, thats terrible! I would think with the combination of name + address, she can narrow it down to purchases that YOU actually bought, not just someone with a common name. Does that mean they are going to prevent all the Uyen's in the world from buying bags in the future? Does not sound like a very well thought out policy.

Audrey, in the US is the limit one B or K a year, or two? Per person I mean. One every six months, or just one a year? Thanks.

ETA: Nevermind, from your last post it looks like one every six months - sorry!

Bought a Kelly on January in US store and asked my SA last week when I can score the next B and he said it should be July. However, at the same day he said that he got a croc B available for purchase. So, is croc and normal leather bag's limit really different? If I buy the croc, can I still buy the normal leather bag? :weird::weird:

I think in all honesty the quota is very subjective. Unwritten rules depending on your status. There are those VIPS and VVIPs. Look at Jamie Chua, who appears in our Asians and Hermes forum. She seems to get them whenever they arrive, maybe not in the same country but I think that the stores need to make their numbers at the end of the day. If they can't sell the croc, they are willing to bend the rules and let you purchase it even if you got one within the last six months. That is the reason I don't think that their so call policies are fair as they don't apply to the same people. Yet. the ones that they are banning are the real users but those that frequent the shops could be resellers and they turn a blind eye.

I would just take it if I'm offered. I think sometimes they open multiple accounts for you since you shop at different states. One account may not show that you've purchased a B so take advantage of it. :graucho::graucho:

I think you are correct about the multiple account thing... but that is not the case for me in this situation. The same SA is selling me 2 birkins in a 4 month window and she knows my SA in the other state. This SA goes by the semester rule (which I prefer). Either way, you know I'm definately snatching the B!!! :p

These crazy applications of the so-called "rules" is ridic! :cray::cray:
So basically, you can't have a leather B bc too many customers want that but you can have the Croc bc not many can spring for one of them so if you want it, u can have it....confirming what chkpfbeliever just posted above about VVIPs and unwitten rules...

It's true, I was offered a croc B by an SA who is not even my own SA who I never even bought anything from !

Maybe just maybe there are a few birkins that no one on the short list wants. What would you think would happen? They start calling folks to see if anyone is interested. My guess is a lot of folks would jump at it even if it was not a color they wanted or leather, etc. and I'd also venture to say some end up in the reseller market faster than you can food shop.

I'll also wager my whatever precious thang I own that there are folks who are offered b's and k's and there is no limit, time frame, nada. Just saying.

I don't give a heap o'bunny pellets. Ever since I got my SO, my one and only evah, that seems to have abated my desire these last few months. Maybe therein lies the secret to calming the seemingly internal flame called desire.

I smell a reveal soon !! Congrats and I wish my SA in Vegas works on the Semester system as well. :D:D

I was offered a Croc in Vegas as well as my local store, both within 6 months after I bought a B. Apparently, the market for the $40K croc is limited to a regular $10K leather B so the rules don't apply. My local store once told me that the SM can make special request to transfer croc bags from other slow moving stores but yet the ones they got were not a popular color so it took a long time to sell it. They get antsy after the while so will offer it to any walk in customer if one ever asks. Sad but true !!

Yes croc seems to be the one birkin that you can get a lot easier. While I was waiting for my ghw black b my SA told me that she had a black ghw croc and if I wanted it I could have it. A croc is too much for me both price wise and functionality wise so I told her no. But I was still shocked at how easily I could've obtained one. At that point I hadn't even spent a whole lot at my boutique. So I guess if you want a croc birkin your chances of scoring one are high!
