What do you guys think about all the Lanvin flats all over eBay? Do you think bc eBay seems to be flooded with them that there are a lot of fakes made? Here are some pics...

I've seen a lot of Lanvin flats on ebay over the past several months. While many of them look authentic, they are over priced IMO. You can find them on sale on barneys.com from time to time. I recently found a pair at my local NM Last call for around $150. If you do decide to buy a pair on ebay, be sure to get them authenticated here first.

Good luck with your search!

Hello ladies,

could you please help me to authenticate this Lanvin Amalia tote? I'm pretty sure it's authentic as the quality is flawless, but I'm no expert... The one thing that worries me is that the hardware doesn't all match in shade -- the grommets are antique cold-colored, while the chain through which the ribbon is woven is must brighter, as is the zipper inside. It's is well possible that Lanvin did this on purpose on this bag (after all, it plays with different shades of gold and champagne), but I just don't know.

Thanks in advance!

Ps: Sorry, I couldn't upload the pictures, but here's the Flickr link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29312763@N06/5352281044/

I won this bag on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...OpqaiNU%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Seller seems reputable, promises that the bag is authentic.
It arrived on Fri & I immediately fell in love w/it, but while researching this particular style, I came across a few things that troubled me. Upon close examination of the bag, I've discovered several things that make me suspect that this bag might not be authentic. I desperately WANT to believe that it is (I love it so much!), so I'd like to get some opinions here - am I just being paranoid, or do you think I'm right?

The first alarm that went off was finding a listing (among others) for this bag on iOffer:
http://gb.ioffer.com/i/lanvin-grey-leather-bag-spring-runway-2010-146162175

Here is a genuine listing on NAP: http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/48318. I also found some really good pics on a private blog: http://miacillan.blogspot.com/2009/12/bling-it-on-with-my-new-lanvin-wrinkled.html

Upon closer examination & comparison to my [absolutely authentic!] Happy bag, this is what else I discovered:

  • The bunch of ribbon (the "petal") on the bag I recd is very sloppy, much flatter and positioned higher on the strap than the one shown on NAP or the blogger's pics.
  • The lining seems a lot thinner than the lining of my Happy & the signature pattern looks different, mainly the appearance the Lanvin "crown" (the thinness could be because the design is different - there's an open pocket behind the zippered pocket, whereas my Happy bag has just a zippered pocket).
  • The screws on the backside of the turnlock plate are different -- my Happy bag has Phillips type screws, the grey one has flathead screws.
  • The Lanvin coin has some very subtle differences - mainly, the imprinting doesn't seem to be as raised as the imprinting on my Happy Bag & the spacing of the letters seems to be slightly different (I also notice some minor differences in color tone, but this could be do to age)
  • The wrinkled effect on the grey bag is a very consistent throughout the bag (like an "X" in the center of each quilted diamond), whereas the bags shown on NAP & the blog seem to be randomly wrinkled & inconsistent w/o a regular pattern (the pattern of the wrinkles on the bag I recd are consistent with the wrinkles on the bags listed on iOffer)

I spoke to my SA at the Lanvin store in LV & asked about this bag - when it was released & if it was available in grey - she said that it was released about 3 seasons ago & that she doesn't think they carried it in grey. She thinks the only color it was available in was the Taupe color shown on NAP. I also spoke with the SA at the NY store that this seller says she has dealt with & she's going to get back to me w/addtl info about the year of its release and what colors they sold

Now here's the kicker -- the seller states in her description that she recently had this bag repaired by Lanvin in Paris. Her SA at the NY store confirmed this -- it was sent to Paris & repaired in October of 2010. She says they wouldn't have repaired it if it were not authentic. She does not, however, have any record of a purchase by this seller (the seller states that she & her BF went to pick it out and he went back to buy it)

So can you see my dilemma here? On the one hand, the SAs at Lanvin are telling me that they didn't carry this bag in grey, but Lanvin made repairs to this bag 3 months ago -- do you think they would do that w/o verifying that it was authentic first?

I have pics and will add them to my next posts
