5265 is a Lexington Brief, it's probably ok but the creed and serial number record shows at least three serial font changes over the first two years for that plant so it's hard to be sure about that one. The others seem ok.
5278 is a Spencer Brief.
Please check the pictures of the third one, the condition is a bit rough.

Don't even bother with the second organizer brief. It is in terrible condition. You want to avoid anything with piping looking that bad.

The first one looks fine but more pictures would help with condition.

The first style number briefs had the 0's in front. This is just a simple explanation.

The organizer brief is rather large. It has several sections and is rather heavy. If you are considering that style, remember it was made when laptops were in. Make sure the laptop will fit in the laptop packet. It is a nice briefcase. The 0544 is a bit narrower and handles a smaller laptop.

When buying briefcases you want to look at the corners, tears in the outer back pocket, and make sure the flap is not all icky looking form being hauled around in the rain. They may look like there are folds or creases if he flap got drenched in a storm.

I would say the older Lexington's are more feminine or may be considered a woman's brief mainly because it is smaller.

I used the 3rd listing as an example. That's beyond the amount of time I have to spare to make it giftable!
Piping is always a concern for me since I don't have the time or patience to repair (if it ever can be done).

My dad is "retired" but runs a small angus farm and handles his own and my grandmother's finances/legals (which requires travel out of state) and needs a case for his PC (macbook 14.25" wide). He loves his giant dogs and is not the most careful person so heavy duty and padded are a must. He's the type that would like something already broken in so he won't have to be careful with it. Heaviness is not an issue since it wouldn't be carried daily. He's also a brown leather only so I think I'll have to stalk a lot longer than will be tenable for Christmas. I wanted to get him something nicer than muck booties (that I can afford)! TMI!:p

Thank you both so much for the facts and the tips.
I appreciate the information!

These next 3 are from my trip to Hilton Head over the holiday...
usually great thrifting, but some of my favorite stores have closed :(
This one is a 2008 Zoe hobo, I think...#12671
Approx. 10.5"w x 10"h x 4"d. Strap drop 7.5" to rings.
Thanks in advance!

Both look fine.

These are the other 2:
A Coach belt from Salvation Army for $1 and a 2004 Hamptons Demi #7785 for $.99 from GW. The blue bag is more like slate blue, not as vivid as pics. And the red stuff on the belt "loops" rolled right up with a rub with a warm, damp sponge.
Thanks again!

Both

My favorite belts are Coach men's belts from Savers. The small sizes seem to be donated more frequently than real "men's" sizes and they're usually brand new (looking)!

I usually pay $2.99.

The bag is good.

I believe the scarf is authentic too but other opinions are welcome.

And last, but not least...an ivory, NYC Basic Bag #9455?
Approx. 11.25"w x 7"h x 2.75"d. Strap drop 18.5" to rings (including clips).
Working on a Basic Bag rainbow...this makes 8, though not all different colors.
Thanks again!

Thanks for all this BeenBurned...I was thrilled to find a larger-than-usual belt to wear with below-the-waist jeans!
