My friend knows I love Coach products and picked these up at Salvation Army for me. The purse does not have any external Coach markings, only an embossed logo in the inside flap. The checkbook/wallet is the same. At first, I discounted them both as fake, but something I can’t dismiss is the quality. The purse leather is soft and very high quality. The stitching and craftsmanship is perfect. These are both really nice leather items. The wallet looks really old and beat up, which is a look that I love, but boy did it hold up. If they are fake, I’ve never seen such nice ones. So I thought I would post them and ask about them. I can’t find anything like them on ebay. They don’t have the familiar tell-tale signs of a coach. I was wondering if maybe they are just really old. It does seem really classy and vintage to have a label hidden on the inside and not plastered all over for the world to see. Is there something I should look for to help verify? I would appreciate your input on these.

The first three photos are of a small red crossbody bag. The last 3 are a man’s checkbook wallet.

Thanks, Janet
The wallet looks authentic. It's hard to pinpoint when it was made. It could be anytime from the 1980s to the early 2000s. To authenticate the red bag, I'd like to see the entire label on the inside and any stamping on the snap.

So glad! So dependent on your expertise. Hope the next update doesn't take as long. Think I had withdrawal issues!
I know I did! I kept trying to do research on bags while I was out thrift shopping. Thankfully I figured out a briefcase I found was fake on my own. It was trying to be a Kensington (like the Willis but bigger) but had a sawn off dowel, screws falling out of the d-rings and a style number that matched Lula's Legacy! I know they could've made a mistake with the style number, but the other problems with it made me glad I put it back on the rack. :nogood:

Has there been confirmation on if the J4C prefix is no good? (I feel like it was brought up recently.) That was the prefix on the serial for that briefcase which also raised some red flags in my mind, since I know J4D is no good.

Both J4C- and J4D- have been used in fake AND genuine bags. The font used can show if it's real or fake, along with any other problems with the bag.

Why do you think J4D is no good? If the D plant was active in 1994, and it was, then it would have been operating during that month. Same thing for J4C. Just because counterfeiters seem to favor the J month code doesn't mean that there aren't authentic bags with those prefixes. I don't have any fake J4C creeds in my files.

Generally I find that there are usually other mistakes in the creeds if the bag is counterfeit. Usually the font is off. A lot of counterfeits use the wrong font, such as this one and the one in this listing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-NAPPA...4-/271681815500?ssPageName=ADME:SS:SS:US:1120

Most 1994 creeds still use the old style wording and have the "made in..." line across the bottom.

Oops! It does have three hangtags & I didn't think to add them!

"Coach" written in cursive (blue), and two tags with "Coach" on them. They are a clear plastic tag with silver sparkle flecks in it & an all black tag.

I have another Coach crossbody purse in question. It states that it is leather, it has an orange interior. The pictures are included :smile1:

The serial # is D1357-F23663. Thank you so much for your time, expertise & feedback! It is greatly appreciated!

Hi, i bought a backpack from Ebay, the serial D23-9827. I have a few questions. I hope someone out there who could help. Thank you so much in advance.

1. most 9827 bags are with brass buckles. this one is silver. why?

2. is serial number unique to each bag? i have seen other D23-9827 numbers also. why?

3. what D23, or G23 or H20, or F13 mean? how do we interpret these codes?

4. most of 9827 linings are brown color but some are black. which is authentic?

5. this bag i bought is missing a indented circle right next to "coach" writing at the right upper corner of the creed. why? i have seen other bags with or without this little circle.

6. the big question: is this D23-9827 authentic?

thank you so much for your education and help. it's so fun to learn about all the inside info from many of you! happy thanksgiving!

We can't authenticate without pictures of the bag you bought.
1. the backpack was made with both brass and silver hardware in the black color.
2. the serial number is not unique to the bag (except for bags made before 1994). The digits before the dash indicate the date and place of production, and the numbers after the dash indicate the style number. For bags made after 1994, all bags of the same style will have the same number after the dash.
3. There is an explanation of how to read creeds here: http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000034886433/g.html
4. I believe that this bag should have brown lining with a lozenge design.
5. I believe the indented circle you are talking about is a target symbol which indicates the bag was sold at the outlet - it is totally fine for a bag to have or not have it.
6. Just because a number is correct for a style doesn't mean the bag is authentic. Counterfeiters can put a correct number on a bag.

ETA: you can post a link to the listing and tell us the seller's name. We can authenticate from that as long as there are adequate pictures.

That sounds like the correct hangtags for the groovy. I don't see any photos for your other bag.
