I have read in a few places that the Dakota bags were only made in Italy. I have a Dakota Cassidy that says it was made in the United States. It also has "irregular" stamped in it on the top right, which I find is not common. I believe it was marked that because the false buckle on the front is very slightly crooked.

It's possible it's a fake but I would be very surprised. Just passing on info for your coach vaults.
It is authentic. I don't know where you heard that they were only made in Italy. My Cassidy was also made in the US, and the creed matches yours.

That's my fault. When I wrote the Coach Italy Guide, every Dakota I'd seen up until then had a Made in Italy creed. My mistake, and I apologise. If the correction system for the Reviews and Guides ever gets de-bugged I'll see if Salearea can make the correction.

Uh oh! Sports Coach alert!! Fake, right?

Keyword spamming AND counterfeit under US law although the Korean courts refused to honor international copyright laws and allowed them to keep on using Coach's name and creed statement. See my post here:

I can try and see if I can fix that when I get on my PC tomorrow. It's been a while since we've edited a guide so not sure about the bug.

Thanks, Richard, hopefully the Guides editing process is working again.

The Coach Italy Guide needs a correction, in the fifth paragraph where it says "The Dakotas were all made in Italy of a unique "box grain" textured leather..." the word "all" just needs to be changed to "mostly".

If you have time, the second-to-last paragraph could use a tweak too. It currently says "Even now, the most expensive styles and exotic leather bags still are produced at the Italian plant (now plant code “12” in the serial number instead of the original “E”)

It should be changed to "The most expensive styles and exotic leather bags were produced at the Italian plant (now plant code “12” in the serial number instead of the original “E”) until around 2010.

Thank you!

Richard, I almost forgot - the Vintage and Classic Leathers Guide needs to have the Bean Bag paragraph changed too.

The part starting with "Well, there has never been a genuine Coach Bean Bag..." needs to be deleted and this substituted:

Coach DID make some genuine bags around 1990 with a "Bean Bag" creed due to a stamping mistake at one of the plants, but that Bean Bag creed was also copied by counterfeiters and sometimes shows up in fakes. All Bean Bag creeds should be authenticated at a dependable source such as the Purseforum or at Ebay's Fashion Discussion Board, formerly the Shoes and Purses Board.

Thanks again!

It's a complete and total FAKE. Coach NEVER made a fabric or pattern like that, the "leather" looks cheap and thin and is probably vinyl, the quality is LOUSY - look how the straps are already coming apart. And that style number would never have been used for a full-size purse. Not only that but the -40725 style number has been mentioned as always fake when it's not in the correct Swingpack style it belongs to - see the second section of the Coach Fakes List posted here at tPF in the Answers to Authenticity Questions section:

There are a LOT more problems with that nasty thing but those are the major ones. Please report it as fake if you can. It's apiece of junk that's already starting to fall apart.
