Alright.. I'm very new here but I have recently become very interested in collecting new and vintage Coach bags. I have been reading these forums for the past month or so, both this thread as well as the sticky on tips for authenticating. I am asking this for learning purposes, I don't mean to imply by posting here that the seller is illegitimate but I didn't know where else to ask.

The creed is missing a serial number, but description says it was made in 1992 (which I thought SN's started after the 70's?). The stitching around the creed is on an angle, and I thought I read from a previous guide that it needs to be straight...

Again, I'm not trying to run the sellers name through the mud because I know with my lack of experience that it's very likely authentic. I was just looking for your expertise so I can learn!

Item: COACH Vintage Dakota Ranger #4201 Brown Leather Shoulder Bag

To add, I also found that the seller has another one but used, in green, here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Vinta...953?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3f40459279

I'm really confused as to why these don't have serial numbers? Are they some kind of special edition?

You've found exceptions to the rule. It is true that most handbags other than very small bags usually have serial numbers. That is now changing -- Coach is no longer putting serial/style numbers on creeds.

The Dakota bags made in the early 90s don't have serial numbers. These bags are authentic.

Almost all of your questions can be answered by reading and Saving the six Salearea Coach Guides that are posted at Ebay. I strongly suggest that you read through them ASAP.
http://search.reviews.ebay.com/members/salearea?uqt=g

The most important things to remember about Coach are:
1- that there are almost NO "rules",
2- that the only consistent thing about Coach is their inconsistency,
and
3- that 90 to 95 percent of the so-called "Coach authenticity guides" posted on the internet including at Ebay are full of mistakes, old outdated information, and just plain lies and BS.

Once you appreciate that fact, the Salearea Guides will supply accurate information to replace the nonsense. The posters here can fill in the blanks.

Quick question I'm asking here because this is the "friendliest" forum on TPF!!!
Any recommendations where to go for a Burberry handbag authentication (in my possession)?
Thanks!
I'm not sure you'll get a lot of help on the ebay fashion board, not because no one cares but because the not-so-ever-powerful Griff caused many of the previous experienced boardies to leave.

I posted on this forum's "authenticate this Burberry" section and got help from Terite. After she confirmed authenticity, I paid for a professional authentication from A4U.

If and when you post there, post your own pictures without any mention of being a seller (even if you plan to sell it).

Hello ladies and gents. I have a coach that I would like to have authenticated. I'm pretty sure it's authentic, but a few things are bothering me enough to get me to ask the experts - namely, the lack of a serial number, the buckle seems thinner than usual, and a portion of leather overlap does not match up well, unlike many other instances of coach bags I have seen. Additionally, the strap feels off but it matches the leather of the actual bag which feels very well made. It came with a matching Coach Leatherware hangtag. Thank you in advance.

Early Coaches often didn't have serial numbers. Again, a recommendation for some accurate Guides to read for more information:

http://www.ebay.com/gds/Guide-to-Vintage-Coach-Hang-tags-and-Creeds-/10000000177697673/g.html

None of the other details youi mention is a problem. Don't compare details on vintage Coaches to details on newer bags. The only time you can ever compare Coach to Coach is with bags in the same style made at the same time and preferably at the same plant.

I was wondering how I can clean some of my coach bags....I have this new patch work suede tote bag, but it's getting dirty....I think it's because the bag is rubbed against my black winter wool coat.
Is it possible to clean suede coach bags?

Thank you! I did read the eBay guides, I didn't realize they could be so inaccurate. Thanks to whateve as well for your input! I knew I obviously was missing something, I was just so confused. Just when I think I am getting the hang of it, there's another exception!

I have read in a few places that the Dakota bags were only made in Italy. I have a Dakota Cassidy that says it was made in the United States. It also has "irregular" stamped in it on the top right, which I find is not common. I believe it was marked that because the false buckle on the front is very slightly crooked.

It's possible it's a fake but I would be very surprised. Just passing on info for your coach vaults.
