Is this just basically the "basic bag"? I'm looking for a British Tan basic bag, and actually would prefer a new one, but this might be as close as I can get for now. Would this be a good deal? Anyone have any advice about finding a new one discounted? I don't think I can get to an outlet, so I can't do that. Maybe checking ebay for a few months would work? Sorry if I'm going off topic...

Check Ebay, and check Macy's, Dillards and Nordstroms' websites for the new version, although Coach.com is still your best bet especially if you catch one of their twice-yearly sales. There will usually be posts here in the Coach Shopping threads when a sale is announced. We don't recommend specific places to buy or prices to buy at, but just suggest you have whatever you find especially in a pre-owned bag authenticated here before you buy it.

The Basic Bag in the Ebay listing is genuine and probably from the mid to late 1980s. Straps on the older styles weren't adjustable so keep that in mind when looking.

Thanks to anyone who reported the fake Disco Bag that I posted here a while ago. Ebay removed it and I lodged a claim with PayPal. They decided 'in my favour', however on condition that I return the offending item. I appealed the decision, pointing out that it was a fake and had been removed by ebay (and would cost me $21 to return for a $33.91 refund!) Within a few hours they advised me that I would be refunded in full and would not have to return the bag. Yay for justice! :woohoo:

Sorry to keep asking...basic bag mission accomplished, I hope. Please, could you tell me what you think of this bag? I just bought it and I'm quite hopeful. I fell in love with it, I guess.

Hi, all, haven't been on the forum for a while. I am hoping someone will justify my gut reaction to these two bags because I am already the proud owner! :graucho: The first one I have been lusting after for a while but there are usually issues with them. The second one I already have in black, absolutely gorgeous bag, so roomy and classy.

In my opinion it's a really unusual and unique style.
It looks like the pocket was originally sewn right underneath the natural leather seam and was quickly and incorrectly repaired, but it should be easy to fix it the right way if someone does leather repair or sewing. I really like that one!

I agree it's a gorgeous style. The stain bothers me more than the pocket.

There's one in suede here.

They both look good - the first is a Whitney Top Handle, the second is a bag from the Manhattan Collection but we've never found an exact name for it. It's styled like a Business Tote though.

The trademark R and the glued-in number just mean it's a very early version, probably early or middle 1970s. SacsMagnifiques1941 has a very good Guide to early creeds, hangtags and serial number styles posted at Ebay:
