I have bought a Coach Court bag in tan. It really does not look real to me. The leather seems to have a coating on it, rather than tanned leather. See image of where there is a little bit peeled off. The creed says made in United States and the Serial number seems odd to me. Inside the bag seems to have been dyed after having been made, as there is a lighter bit where colour has not reached near the seams (see photo of internal zip and see the lighter interior at the edge).

What year do you think it was made? and what about where the finish of the bag has peeled? My other old Coach bags don't have anything like this film that might peel?

The bag was made in the early 1990s.

The only one who can answer you about the "finish" is the person who put it on. But the damage in the first picture you posted looks like a cigarette burn. The top layer of the leather is burned off.

Hi everyone-- I'm just looking to interpret the symbols on my PF subscribed threads page and looking for help. The girls over at the Gucci forum are unresponsive for more than 5 days now but on my subscribed threads summary page there is a little yellow triangle with a "!" inside next to that thread. What does this mean-- on vacation maybe?

Good Morning Ladies...Would really appreciate your opinion on this mystery bag.
My daughter gave to me to rehab & at first I thought it was a very dry, orangey, neglected Red Stewardess. After a wash (please disregard the brasso residue :) it is still a strange color of Brick/Burnt Orange. I have never seen a Stew of that color..a cross between BT & Red. Also, while the creed stamp reads correctly for a NYC the font and
stamp looks 'neather' than my others. Also I noticed the strange little zipper pull. These little things may mean nothing. There is so much 'Right' with the bag..but the color is so Wrong. So..could it have been dyed? (inside & every square inch is the same color) Or a
color I am not aware of? or a scary good fake? It's fate awaits! Thanks in advance for your help!

I think it is probably authentic. The brass stamping on the buckle is identical to others. I've also seen that zipper pull. The only thing that looks a little weird is the back of the strap rivet. It is usually concave. I have a NYC bag that looked that color but once I conditioned it, it turned red. I was so disappointed! I can't find a vermillion or red-orange in my files for the NYC time period, but I know it was a color used earlier in Bonnie Cashins and also later.

Thanks Whateve..Yes, it does appear more authentic than not..plus can't recall a NYC Stew knockoff to compare. My earliest catalogue with the Stews begin about '82 or 3 & I know there are earlier ones..hmmm..Well, I am disappointed it's not red! LOL! guess I will go back to work on it & see what happens. Meanwhile, maybe somebody else may chime in that has seen the color before! :)

No, it's just an icon someone used when they started or answered one of the posts. Click on the "Start a new thread" link in most of the forums and you'll see all those icon choices underneath.

You may want to double-check the Rules at the Gucci forum to make sure you're following them in your post

I have a ton of pre-owned, vintage Coach bags...it looks to me like this was damaged, a bad scrape that went deep and now the untreated raw leather is exposed. It looks more outstanding because the leather around it is not worn, so there is a lot of contrast.

I agree with Whateve. My Stew looks very similar style-wise to it (mine is BT, and probably very close in age which I believe Hyacinth said was mid-70s to mid-80s.) The buckles on mine are also stamped "Solid Brass USA" although a little more worn on mine. Judging from what's showing up on my computer I would say it's probably red based on the third chart Hyacinth posted ages ago on a different thread.
