Thanks, BeenBurned! That makes more sense now, especially since I live close to a factory store. I was able to find a bunch on eBay but of course no timeline specifics.
You're welcome.

Now I have a question of my own. How does this bag look?

The spacing of the characters in the prefix seems too close together and I know the style is highly faked and the fakes can be pretty close.

Bonanza listing:

Authentic COACH ~ Soho Black Leather Brass Hardware Belted Pouch Bag Purse #4156
Seller - ReDestined
http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Aut...ardware-Belted-Pouch-Bag-Purse-4156/206908646

The creed:

Comparisons - I'm not questioning the following. These are authentic comps.:

Would have been made at same time, but a different style:

Same style as bag in question but made a few months later, same plant:

Same month and plant, different style:

It's fake. The style is commonly faked. I have the same bag made in the H plant in 1997. An H creed always has that distinctive look where the H is lower than the rest of the digits and the center line of the H continues on to make the dash. The edge of the inside of the bag above the pocket is finished wrong. It is shorter in this bag than the rest of the edging around the top, like it was folded over, then stitched. On an authentic bag the top edge is the same all the way around. An authentic bag has a smooth leather piece covering the inside bottom of the bag.

ETA: I'd have to call the station bag creed 5130 above questionable at least. I've never seen an authentic creed from the H plant that didn't have the distinctions I mentioned above.

Thanks, Whateve. I thought the Bonz bag might be fake, but the H does appear slightly larger in her pictures (as it usually does) so I thought that maybe photo angle and/or lighting might have skewed the appearance of the spacing.

That's interesting about the station bag. Perhaps NSP might chime in on that one.

The only *6H- creed pic I have that's proveably genuine is the one below with the "ES" stamp, which matches only the last of your photos exactly.

The problem is that PARTS of a creed stamp can be replaced piecemeal if needed, all they would probably need to do is replace either one "ring" on the rotary mechanism or maybe even just one digit. That's why it's always best when you can find other problems with the bag. I'd be a bit concerned about the first two but again, there's no solid proof that they're actually fake, just questionable. There's no way to know 18 years later if or when a stamp was changed, repaired, sent to another plant or maybe if it even was one of two stamps for the same plant.

There are a bunch of plant codes mostly from the middle part of the alphabet, maybe G to M, that have fuzzy histories to say the least. Interesting that many of them especially G,H, L and M, often have oversized digits in the plant code spot - same stamp used by different plants, same replacement digit, same mistake made by the company making the stamps - who knows?

Comments: I am pretty sure of the answer here but I also want to comment on the seller.

Does anyone else believe that rosemerrily attached a genuine lozenge charm to a fake boot charm lanyard? The hangtag is authentic - no question. How about the boot?

Additionally, this question aside, according to my records, the seller has had fake keychain
listings removed in March, May and August with a total of at least 6 previous fakes.

She also disassembles Coach keychains to make "Coach" jewelry that is NOT Coach jewelry! Other listings are authentic. At best, rosemerrily mixes fakes and authentic and I can't recommend.

Additionally, the clock charm in this listing isn't made by Coach. FAKE!

The Boot charm is fake. The Cs are the wrong shape that's only found on fakes, and the Coach stamping on the back isn't the right font either. And the only genuine bit in the second photo is the enameled blue metal hangtag. All the other bits and pieces are Cwap.
