The bag looks fine to me. More opinions are welcome. The brass on these bags scratches easily. I have Legacy bags that I only carry rarely and they are scratched too. Mine are FP versions but I assume the factory version might have the same hardware. It is my understanding it was supposed to have an aged look.

Thank you so much! Yes, I welcome more opinions on this bag! ;)

I purchased this Coach Legacy bag (new with tags) several years ago on Ebay, and have never had it authenticated. The stitching and heft feel right, as does the leather, but what has given me pause is that the brass fittings have become scratched, worn and discolored, but this bag does not get excessive use, it is rotated with many other bags. I am including a photo of the brass wear.

Measures: 12"x 6" x 4"

So what do you think, is this baby real? ;) Thank you!
I agree with Whateve on how easily the brass can scratch. It'll also tarnish easily after awhile but can easily be polished with some Brasso which is pretty inexpensive (just be careful not to get it on the bag.)

The bag is authentic.

The J plant code would be a problem just by itself, I've never found any valid J codes from 1995. And an upside-down J is even worse. The inside base is completely wrong too, it should be a piece of smooth leather and completely fastened down with finished and rolled edges, see the picture below. That unfinished base in the listing really looks like Cwap.

And of course it's s Fletcher, not a Pat's Legacy.
Thanks, Hyacinth. I've never seen an upside-down J and just wanted to verify that it's fake before reporting.

I was wondering about this bag which I bought, not even noticing it had no creed number. now i'm wondering whether it is authentic?

Wow, that's a great find if it is really "like new"! It has no creed number because it was made before Coach started using serial numbers. It's probably from the mid 70s. http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000034886433/g.html

thanks, guys for the quick response. i bought it thinking the same thing, pre-serial, NYC bag. i did get the bag and it's gorgeous, barely used, although the handles have darkened/stained. but then i got an 'omg what if it isnt authentic' attack, maybe because it was so gorgeous!! the creed on this bag is so clear, and usually on my 'pre-serial' bags its much more faded. maybe that's simply because the bag hasn't been used much.

so i guess i'll assume it's an authentic find! i was just getting nervous.

You're welcome! You might be able to clean some of the grime off the handles.

May I ask, how do you know when a bag, such as the Legacy that I posted, is authentic? What should we be looking for as dead giveaways of a fake?

There's no easy answer to that question, it's different for every bag and every time period except for a few basic rules but even those usually have exceptions. There's some information posted here at tPF and also in the Salearea Coach Guides at Ebay. Read them and Bookmark them, but always ask here before you buy. Recent styles often need to be compared to a known genuine example of the same style.

Brooklyn and Smythe aren't Vevers bags. The Rhyder is. The hangtags are blank (no Coach imprint!)

They don't really care if they make authenticating harder. Their viewpoint is: If you want authentic, you should buy directly from Coach.
Oops didn't know Brooklyn and Smythe were not Vevers bag. The small white hangtag is going to be a pain to find! Like playing hide and seek with it.
