Just to add further proof of Coach's inconsistency, the Madison convertible hippie is about 10 x 12 and doesn't have a creed. The Bleecker daily bag that is very close to the same size has a creed.

Coach is more likely to put creeds in smaller items if they are higher quality or pinnacle items. However, the bag in the listing in question is bigger than a MFF bag I own that has a creed complete with serial number. Who knows how they make these decisions.

And even more disturbing and incomprehensible is their recent decision to stop putting serial numbers on the creeds, judging from the early pictures of some bags from the Fall 2014 lines. Whatever idiot decided that should be permanently transferred to the employee bathrooms with a mop and a bucket.

That's what I thought too, and may have even said so in a post once. If I did, that was a mistake. But buried in my old files someplace is a vintage bag that's labeled a Boston Bag. And just recently, maybe in a few of the Factory Online sales, there was also a similar bag with Boston in the title. So apparently there's no effective trademark on the name, at least in the US. They all seem to be large travel-style bags, somewhere between a Carryall and a small travel duffle.

Here's the one being asked about -

I think the bag in the listing is ok.
Thank you for pointing that out. I stand corrected. I never knew that Coach used "Boston" in the name of any of its bags!

I learned something new today.

Hi ladies! Could you please authenticate these two listings that I am considering. They are from the same Etsy seller.

Item:Vintage rare buttersoft COACH leather drawstring pouch tote duffle shoulder crossbody bag leatherware USA
Seller: MaryJaneClassics
Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/197046121/vintage-rare-buttersoft-coach-leather
Comments: I searched for other drawstring bags and none of the ones that I found have fixed straps at the side of the bag. Also I'm used to "Made in the United States" not USA.

Item:Vintage rare camel COACH leather satchel tote shoulder bag leather ware USA
Seller: MaryJaneClassics
Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/197047238/vintage-rare-camel-coach-leather-satchel
Comments: Name and number? (this is not a pick-up line I promise!)

These both seem like good candidates for a rehab treatment!

Both bags look authentic. The first one looks like a Lightweights Drawstring Sac #4015 from around 1988-1990. Coach used both "Made in the United States" and "Made in USA" creeds during this period for the Lightweights line.

The second bag looks like a Riverside bag #4118 from the West End Lightweights Collection from around 1992. I believe it is pretty rare.

I think that the drawstring bag will be especially difficult to rehab with the ink mark. Personally, I have found the thinner leather harder to rehab. The spots seem more stubborn and the original dyes weren't very good so these bags tended to fade unevenly. This bag might be a good candidate for Leather Refinisher.

I was in a Coach store today and I forgot to look at the creeds. I looked at some at Macy's but only for styles I didn't remember seeing at Coach because I wanted to see if they had an M in the creed. None of them did; all had numbers.

I did look at the linings to make sure it wasn't that horrible signature c lining they've put in some of the recent styles. The Stuart Vevers bags are supposed to have linings that coordinate or match the color of the bag and they have the word "Coach" woven into the lining at intervals.

Hi there ladies! Hope you are doing well :)
I need help with this bag. I read that carousels are faked a lot so have to be super careful.

Item: Carousel bag

Pictures are attached

Thank you very much yet again ladies :)

They really did that? Omg it's going to be almost impossible to authenticate new bags then!

Please use the format in the first post. Did you win these?
They are authentic. We don't know the name of the flap bag. The other is a camera bag 9760.

Oops, sorry! I don't buy off ebay too often.

I did win them. She accepted my offer. I know i should have authenticated first. Just wanted them and was hoping they were good.

My first nyc bags, I'm so excited. Thank you so much for being flexible and authenticating! I so appreciate you all here!

Exactly! They're putting a tiny fabric tag inside the bag with the style number and production codes, but if sellers can't even be bothered to post a photo of the creed, they're certainly not going to bother photographing a small tag. And there are no distinctive details that can be used to spot fakes from their mistakes like fonts or spacing on a tag, like there are in a stamped serial number. It's going to be a lot harder just IDENTIFYING the style of a bag with no stamped number on the creed.

It's such an incredibly stupid decision, but that's what happens when someone takes over the company who has no sense of the history AND the practical applications of those old practices. I guess those serial number stamps aren't "edgy" or "hip" enough for the new head honcho. The more I see of his ideas, the less respect I have for him and the less confidence I have in the company.

And I'm sure Coach also figures that it's cheaper and faster to eliminate serial numbers on the creed. Heaven FORBID that something so time-consuming and expensive should lower their profits on their projected lines of thousand-dollar bags!

And many of those who do post creeds don't know how to use the macro function to get legible pictures. I can't imagine the carp pictures we'd see of tiny tags!

I went snooping around the Coach website and the forums. It seems that the other new bags for Fall 2014 do have the creeds and serial number.

Like the Coach Bleeker Brooklyn:

And the Coach Madison Smythe:

It seems the only exception is the new Rhyder satchels. The one that Coach has been hyping about. It has the white tag only. Weird huh? Well like Hyacinth always said, the only consistent thing about Coach is their inconsistency.

It really reminds me of Louis Vuitton. They have this itty bitty leather tag that is always super hard to find. Different models have different places where the leather tag is situated.

Doesn't surprise me since the new Coach Creative director, Stuart Vevers used to work for LV. Lets hope this is just an exception. If not, it'll be a pain to authenticate newer bags.
