I left the measuring tape there, I thought that was close enough, but I i will be sure
to write down the measurements next time, duly noted!

There is a round flap of leather covering the back of the turn lock hardware, yes.
Not sure what you mean by a macro close up but I am sending more photos of the creed if the other was not clear enough.

There are no markings on the brass buckle, which is thin like the one in the photo you put up on the suede/leather combo bag - the strap is the same on mine.
Oh, and the only markings I found is on the little chain, on the clasp it says "bead chain".
Had to use a magnifying glass to read it, I am getting old!!

Maybe Coach at one time did cover the back of the turnlock, but I've never seen it before. The rest of the bag including the creed seems ok, but we've never seen the style before either.

Below is a creed from a Document Bag that was posted either here or at Ebay from around 1987, and except for showing a bit of wear and tear, the creed and the serial number fonts are identical and were stamped by the same stamp. Yours was obviously made when the stamp was much newer and hadn't had any damage or repairs.

This is a gorgeous bag!!! Love the red! I tried typing in coach trail bag on eBay a came up with nothing of what yours looks like.. Is there other key words you can type in? Or is it a rare style?! Plmk! Thanks

If you search for the actual style number 9955 you'll have better luck. But they don't come up often.

Whateve..in reference to your pretty Trail Bag..is this style the one I see listed as a
Coach (Fishing) Creel bag? I have often wondered about that name. Thanks!
Whateve's (GORGEOUS!) red trail bag (style 9955) is not the same as Coach's Creel bag (style 4909). Among other things, the creel bag doesn't have a top handle.

The 4909 creel bag (shown here) was so named because it (sort of?) resembles a real fisherman's "creel" - I've included a photo of a "real" wicker creel for comparison.

I agree, the covering on the turnlock is the only thing that raises a red flag, and that is probably no reason for concern since we have never seen this style before. The stamped chain is further proof of authenticity. Everything else about the bag makes me believe it is authentic.

My turn...JEALOUS!

Thank you! They don't come up very often and most sellers don't know the correct name so it is pretty hard to find. I got it when I was spending a lot of time on ebay looking at almost every listing! It is pretty small so I don't carry it much, but I love admiring it. Coach red leather in the 90s was perfect.

Could someone please authenticate this bag? It is in the thrift store (doing my weekly bag hunt 😄)
And can I get the name if it is real, thanks!

The serial no was too hard to photograph:

Thank you!
It's fake. The first letter of the creed has to be between A and M. There are other problems as well, like the grooves on the back of the turnlock and the sloppy stitching. The square rings attaching the handle look too big.
