Please help authenticate this handbag?
I just purchased it from a local consignment shop a few hours ago for only $5.00.
The SA said the purse was an "Original Coach Bag", so I'm not too sure on authenticity.
I would appreciate any input you have. Thanks so much!
Hyacinth already told you this was a fake, but I wanted to point out something about the bag that you will see on MANY fakes. Notice how the piping on the corner is flaked off? You will (almost) never see that on a real Coach bag. They usually use leather, which will not flake off. If they use vinyl it is a stiffer type that also does not peel. The color might fade or rub off from wear but not that way.
CIAO!

Hi, could I get some help to authenticate this very vintage and extremely well used messenger bag:

Item: COACH VTG BROWN LEATHER 'CLASSIC ORIGINAL' SHOULDER/MESSENGER/POUCH BAG GRUNGE
Listing number: 261502668020
Seller: 2011dahandyman702
Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261502668020
Comments: I love the very vintage look of this bag, and the condition is part of the appeal. It also faintly resembles the Stewardess bag, which I want so much, but is too gigantic for me. This seems like a nice compromise.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question that's related to authenticating Coach purses. Do Coach magnetic snaps always have Comag or Romag and USA PAT on them? A friend brought me a purse she bought on ebay the other day and asked me if I thought it was real and I noticed that the magnetic snap said OKPTA1519426. I did a quick search for it in the forums and found multiple queries about that serial number on the snap from Gucci to Fendi to LV to Chanel. Does Coach use a magnetic snap like this? Thanks!

I don't know the specific answer to whether Coach ever used another brand of snap however, there's always the possibility that even if the snap isn't original to the bag, it could have been a replacement, not necessarily done by Coach.

The answer to your authenticity question is that it's generally impossible to authenticate a bag without pictures of the actual item.

Just looking at the images on Google of bags using that snap, I'd say that they're ALL fake but like BeenBurned said, we need to see photos of the actual bag.

There are a ton of fakes in most major brands with that snap, especially fake LVs. A snap that popular with counterfeit makers is unlikely to be on a genuine bag. There are even a large number of websites with bunches of fakes that are using "Okpta1519426" in the NAME of the bags being sold. That to me is a HUGE red flag. Not only does it not sound like a valid patent number from any country, but its association with so many really cheap fakes and no-name bags tells me all I need to know. Here's just one example from an Ebay listing:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OKPTA-1519426-Leather-Purse-/111179388299

There are no listings at all on Google that would show that OKPTA is a valid purse OR magnetic snap manufacturer.

I'm sure that your friend has been scammed. Please try to convince her to post photos especially if she's still within the window for getting a refund from the seller or her credit card company.

The bag is genuine.

The seller is a tPF member registered here last month as "dahandyman702" but so far they haven't posted much. They do have one strong Negative at Ebay and I'm wondering if this Classic Shoulder Bag #9170 might even be the same bag. The one Negged in January was described as "COACH VTG. "CLASSIC ORIGINAL" SANDSTONE LEATHER SHOULDER/POUCH/SATCHEL NYC (#261371124332)"

It definitely looks like a challenge, for sure.
