Is there a reason why everyone is speaking for Hyacinth?

*snip*

COACH Signature Logo Poppy Indigo Denim Purse Handbag

Serial # looks to be A05U-1482

With reference to the listing, I already posted a response.

I wasn't actually speaking "for" Hyacinth although it appears that way because you'd addressed your comment toward her and her response to you. I was actually speaking for myself because I, too have been subjected to similar comments.

I'm often accused of being mean, rude, abrupt, arrogant, unsympathetic as well as other non-complimentary adjectives. IMO, if any of those terms applied to me, why would I volunteer so many hours on TPF authentication threads, ebay forum and ebay boards.

This is a forum with thousands of members and just as many personalities. Some members offer advice with gentle euphemisms and stroke the poster. Others are more direct, to the point and generally blunt.

Keep in mind that people's hard earned money (as buyers) or reputations are at stake and the advice we give tries to help both sides.

Also note that we do this FREE OF CHARGE on our own time while juggling our own real-life obligations that include family, jobs, errands, children, grandchildren, doctor's visits, etc. We get no compensation, nothing from TPF, Ebay, Bonz, Amazon, etc. and often, it's a thankless "job" but we keep coming back.

It's often frustrating to feel attacked because some people don't like the manner in which we express ourselves.

My dear late mother used to tell me that if I wanted to hear from someone who always agreed with me to look in the mirror and talk to that person.

Has anyone heard of icoachmall.com?

This is a bag I was interested in:
http://www.icoachmall.com/Coach-City-Medium-Tan-Totes-DID-p-2115.html#.U49M0WMU-P-

I know that these are probably stupid questions. The price on the bag is way too low to be real. Plus every bag (and the web site is huge) is shown for sale at the same unbelievable price of $63.99.

I can't remember how I even came across this web site. Any response(s) would be appreciated.
That is a site of all counterfeit Coach bags!

Hi. I just saw this at salvation army. Is that dash in the serial number normal? It struck me as odd. Also, there is crooked cut leather on the bottom that makes me think it must be fake, but I have to make sure, since it was $28 and looked new. Also, it had an outlet bullseye stamp which was way off to the side. I am sorry but I don't have dimensions.... really need to start carrying a tape measure with me. :D It looked like a city bag to me.

I know. I kinda felt attacked also but didn't take it too personal. I owned and ran a free self-help forum of my own for many years so I can completely sympathize. Besides dealing with members there is the administration of the forum as well. It's hard to always be gracious, especially when you are giving of your own free time and may be spent from all of the free work you provide.

edit: I wanted to add that when I had my own forum, once I felt I was being put upon I eventually closed it. It wasn't worth the negative feelings I was having that may have been spilling over onto the members who really were there for help. Once it didn't feel joyful anymore the purpose of giving of myself was defeated. What I find a little disproportionate in the case of our situation here is the long, drawn out spankings I've gotten just for mistakenly assuming someone was being snippy, even after I said I understood the situation.

edit #2: It seems like purseblog.com does make money. Maybe ask for some compensation so you don't feel like you are giving so much of yourself? I know I would if I felt like you do.

I found another one that I'm wondering about re: authentication. I tried to do a web search on it but the seller didn't provide enough information. I asked the seller for the serial no and they said there was no interior creed patch.

NoShoe (may I call you this?)

Thank you for expanding on the background of this bag. It is rare, for I've not seen a bag with the two side bag before. I call it my "cargo pants" Coach briefcase.

Best

No problem. Most people call me NSP. Sometimes you can call Coach and play dumb. Ask about how to clean the bag. Give them the last 4 numbers on the creed (0594) and the year it was made (1999). Then you can ask the style name if they know it.

Please read the Salearea Coach Guides here, especially the ones on creeds and serial numbers for an explanation

The bag is genuine but the strap isn't and was not made by Coach, at least not for the Court Bag.

Oh, thank you! I didn't know there were different types of creeds! I am just starting out on my vintage Coach love affair, and am still learning a lot.

Can you help me identify whether this next item is authentic?

Item: Coach Court bag in white leather

I am just learning about Coach, which ones are real and which ones aren't. I wasn't implying that just because I hadn't seen a specific Coach design that any bag I haven't seen is fake. No need to get snippy about it.

Is there a reason why everyone is speaking for Hyacinth? I do understand and took no personal offense. I did respond to her question. Can we move on?

There's a bag in the post I made above that I have some concerns about. I'm hoping I can get an answer to my authenticity question about

Hyacinth's perfectly capable of speaking for herself, but also appreciates that the other members of this forum are willing to speak in her defense when they think it's warranted, and I appreciate it very much.

My post wasn't meant to be insulting. The part in italics in my reply to your first post is something that I've posted in several threads and Guides to remind people about being careful when saying or thinking that a Coach might be fake. We've had dozens of situations here and especially on the Hall Of Shame thread (which is meant ONLY for reporting fakes, not authenticating) when someone will scream FAKE!!! because a style isn't familiar or they happen to think it's ugly so of course it must be fake. As BeenBurned has already pointed out, someone reading one of these posts, or the original poster acting on their suspicions, might jump the gun and report a genuine bag to Ebay as fake for all the wrong reasons and create a nightmare for the seller.

This is what's posted here in Part 3 of my Fake Serial Numbers thread and a few other places as a reminder to new and old members alike, including myself:

"Please remember, this is NOT a complete list of all fake serial numbers. New examples turn up constantly, and many fakes have serials that actually belong the the style the fake bag is copying. And bags made before 1994 DON'T have the Coach style number as part of the serial number - DON'T try to use the last 3 or 4 digits for identification or authentication!

Also remember, just because a Coach item seems to have the right style number, or looks just like the picture from Coach's website, or the C's line up correctly, OR IT HAS YKK ZIPPERS, that DOESN"T mean it's genuine.

And just because you haven't seen it before, or can't find it on Google or on Coach's website, or you don't like it, or think that "Coach couldn't possibly have made something that ugly" doesn't mean it's fake."

Please read the full comments in context. I didn't write that just to insult you - and NO insult was intended BTW - but to remind everyone to be careful about judging a style you're not familiar with. The word "fake" should be used with extreme care especially in places like tPF and other boards where people feel strongly about the subject and tend to want to report fakes before some poor soul gets suckered into buying a piece of counterfeit trash.

And I'll add a warning - I AM short-tempered, and can be abraisive, snotty and just plain b!tchy at times. That's my personality, unfortunately, and I excuse it by saying that at my age I'm entitled to be a crabby-arse. Just be glad you're not my husband.

So welcome to tPF, and with dilegence and luck you may emerge from the experience not only wiser but with the knowledge that you're learning enough here about fakes to make it worth putting up with the nasty old bat at the Coach forums.

Forgiven? :flowers:

I did not read the whole story here, but I just want to say that I, and I'm sure a lot of us here, greatly appreciate our authenticators here, BeenBurned, Hyacinth, Whateve, and others, for their generous help (they are not getting any$), expert knowledge!

It's genuine although the seller seems to have ended the listing.

We usually recommend being very careful about white or light-colored bags and making sure the seller has clear pictures of all the areas of the bag so bidders can check for problems especially dirt and damage. Light-colored bags sometimes have been at best professionally re-dyed or at worst, shoe-polished, and it's always a good idea to ask the seller about what they and previous owners have done to the leather in the way of touching up or rehabbing.
