There are many reasons why we request the info.

  • We want to be able to search the seller's ID to see if she has a previous history of selling fakes.
  • We want to look at the other current and completed listings to see if there are more fakes
  • We check feedback to see if there were previous allegations of fake
  • If a seller is caught with a fake, we will watch for removed or returned items to be relisted
  • Posting the item numbers of listings helps reduce the number of repeat requests for authentication. If someone is looking at a bag, they can search by item number and/or seller ID to see if the bag was already looked at.

Thank you, I understand.

Technically it's not "vintage" and the seller should know that since it's only 11 years old and was made in 2003. Coach often brought back older styles while keeping the same details as the originals had. It's not one of the recent remakes, and it's genuine.
Thanks so much! Yes, not really vintage, just a little old and pre-owned ;-) Appreciate your reply!

So I have this little cosmetic pouch that's yet another thrift shop rescue. Is it actually Coach?

Item: Red leather zippered cosmetic pouch
Seller: n/a (GW, I think. It's been a while and I recently unearthed it amongst my accessories).
Comments: I found it in a basket mixed in with a bunch of cheap looking pouches and wallets. I got it for $2.99. The leather, while covered in a fine grime (grody!), had potential. I could tell it was decent leather under all that filth. I accepted it as a rehab challenge!

There's no creed or serial number which from what I understand is normal for little pouches and cosmetic bags, just a hang tag and a little Coach logo stamped or embossed in the bottom right corner. It's small: approximate measurements are 8" wide by 4.5" tall and like an inch and a half to two inches deep. (I can get more accurate measurements if you need them, when I get home).

I'm led to believe it's authentic because it's withstood one cleansing dunk without falling apart and is already looking much better than these pictures. Pictures are taken before the rehab process!

The front. It's a nice red obscured by a layer of crud :'(

Aaand the back, also cruddy:

Here's the inside, lined with cotton fabric that reminds me of a pillowcase. Ewww, it's in really bad shape here! When I dunked it, I also turned it inside out and scrubbed the lining. It looks a lot better now than it does in this pic!

If you need more pics or better measurements, I'm happy to take some more when I get home. Also, if it is indeed authentic, I will update you guys on my progress in the Rehab thread! :)

Thanks in advance!

(Side question: Is there a Dooney rehab thread? Because I'm also working on a couple of those. I may have a problem :))

It looks genuine to me but I don't know which specific cosmetic case it is.

As for your Dooney question, wait for BeenBurned, she may know.

I don't believe there's a Dooney rehab thread although the Coach rehab would probably be just as helpful.

THere doesn't seem to be a lot of activity on the Dooney subforum. A while back, after having trouble getting some fakes removed (after multiple reports), I started a Dooney hall of shame thread and it gets less action than a white crayon.

Friend told me she bought this and I have my doubts.

Is that a real Stewardess bag?

The Stewardess is fake. Not only is the strap sewn badly on the edges and has a missing grommet, but the turnlock is wrong and the serial number is fake and has an invalid plant code "R" that wouldn't have been used in a US-made bag in 1999, BADLY overstretched "elephant-skin" leather where the leather has been overprocessed especially on the back of the bag, and the rivet that's normally covered by the strap buckle mounting that's visible in the center picture shows a SILVER-color rivet, not brass. The remaining strap buckle grommets also look silver.

The entire strap looks wrong and I'm getting bad vibes from the stitching all over the bag too. At least one end of the strap seems to have 5 buckle holes when it should only have 4. Compare that bag especially the strap to this genuine one that was recently authenticated:
