I don't know if I am posting in the correct place, so feel free to redirect if I'm not. :) I bought this lavender and black scarf today at a garage sale. It measures approx. 38" x 39". The seller was an older lady who said she received it as a gift a number of years ago and had never worn it. Can anyone give any info on whether it is authentic? No tag or Coach logo on it, but I wasn't sure if older Coach scarves always have tags or logos? Thanks in advance for any help!

Unfortunately, the scarf is fake. The size and style aren't made (as shown) and the signature pattern is the wrong shape. There are other problems too.

I could be wrong but the serial number looks to perfect for 1994.. But it match my same kind of bag from 1996, also it does not say reverse side of the leather like my other bag.. Help!!!

Please wait for other opinions but every bag I've seen with the S plant code has been made in China. I don't know whether S is one of the codes that was used in multiple plants. The creed describes a leather bag but the listing in question is suede.

This listing from (my correction ETA after the fact) 9 years later and in the (supposedly) same plant was made in China and doesn't have the puffy creed as shown in the listing you asked about.

Oops. Yes, you're right. It's from 9 years later, not a year earlier.

I'm not sure that S was used in the US.

Please wait for other opinions. (I'm going back to edit my post with the correct year for the comp listing. Thanks for correcting me.)

The red D4S- creed and serial are fake. Even if S had been a US plant code, 1994 would have been too early for it to be used. The stamping is puffy which should only happen in early Chinese-made bags, that elongated "o" in the "No" with the extra-long underscore is becoming a common red flag no matter what the plant and year codes are, and like Fashionstar said, the serial number stamping is much too perfect. Coach stamping mechanisms in the 1990s were NOT perfect.

I have a note about seeing a fake Duffle Sac with an S plant code from 1994 and another one with a D5S- code and a clearly fake bag with an L5S- code. I've NEVER found a valid S code from a US plant from the mid-90s in a genuine bag. The S code was actually one of the first ones to be used in a Chinese plant and was used for travel and Business bags ONLY starting in 1996. I'm almost 100 percent sure that any S codes from US plants from the mid-1990s are fake.

And not only is the creed description of the kind of leather on the red duffle wrong, but the style number 9085 is ONLY for the original-style smooth leather duffle, not for the Berkeley suede version which didn't even come out until 1996. Please report:

Take a good look at this style "No" and remember it. It's possible that it was used on some genuine bags but so far almost everything I've seen it in has been either questionable or out-and-out fake.
