I didn't take it as an outburst! I was excited to read and purchased immediately after your initial post! Everyone here has been so helpful. I feel so inept buying vintage, I've always bought new, and I'm not familiar with many sellers/users yet. Thank you again for your help! And the advice, which is much appreciated. :smile1:

Just for the record, I'm not an official authenticator. (It really was an outburst! :shame:)

It is always a good idea to get every bag authenticated before you purchase, even when you do know the sellers or feel confident about the item. Hyacinth, BeenBurned, Whateve, DemRam, NoShoePolish, and TetonDeb (aka Sacsmagnifiques) can often provide valuable input and feedback that a buyer can easily miss - like original strap length, hardware and zipper anomalies,if the bag appears too dirty, or is covered in dye or polish....to list just a few possibilities.

Congrats on your vintage Coach purchase. She's a beauty. :smile1:

I think I may have been wrong. I was looking at the 7081 number on the tag and assuming that was the style number since she listed it in the description. Now I see that FS4921 is also on the tag. Does that mean it was sent to factory for final sale? I think I got an awesome deal either way, although I did check out some old posts on the purse forum where someone picked one up for 19.99 a few of years ago. Did this bag come with a shoulder strap? Thanks again for your expertise.

Yes, the 4921 Satchel included a 49-inch shoulder strap.

Comment: not a good pic of the creed but it looks strange to me.

I'm not comfortable with that one at all. The strap wasn't made by Coach so if the bag itself is genuine, the strap isn't. I'm also wondering what happened to the "...ware" in Leatherware and why the seller says it's made in Costa Rica, and why there's no serial number shown. The overlap on the piping on the bottom edge of the bag really looks sloppy too, that's not Coach quality. The "male" part of the turnlock looks too rounded on top, and where the first line of the creed says "...Coach bag.It is made..." it looks like there's no space after the period and the word "bag". The words "are" and "natural" looks too close too.

The creed isn't right. We'd want to see more pictures of the inside and want to see why that inside pocket the creed is stamped on looks so odd. There's a good chance it's fake and I would NOT bid on it without more photos.

Thanks Hyacinth. I have asked the seller for a better pic of the creed. I thought the hardware looked too much like gold tone rather than brass, but that could be the light I guess.

This seller ONLY sells authentic bags.

ETA: I was in the middle of serving dinner when I posted the above outburst.

It is always a good idea to get each bag you are interested in authenticated, regardless of the seller.

Very nice find!

Thanks...I was pretty breathless :)

9257 may have been called a Suede Poppy Hippie Bag but that's just a guess. Yours looks like it's in great condition.

9813 is just shown as a Classic Tote although it has the same strap details as the Legacy West line of bags and is from the right time period and style number range to be from that line. It's from the early 2000s, the web page is from April 2001.

Thanks, Hyacinth...my inner flower child is very happy with this one LOL!

Do you know if the 9813 was made in China in 2002?...ebay is my iphone resource when I'm shopping and every one I found there was made in the United States, so I passed on it. I took a photo of the bag and the creed, but I couldn't figure out how to make the images small enough to post. I'll work on that today. Thanks for the catalog pic!

From the small sampling I've looked at it seems that they were made in the D plant in the US until and including March 2002 (C2D-9813 serials), then the same month they also began to be made in the W plant in China, with C2W-9813 codes. All of them look genuine - in fact I looked at maybe a dozen and there didn't seem to be any obvious fakes which is unusual for almost any style Coach from that time period. So March 2002 is probably the date when production was moved but again, that's just a guess. It's not clear exactly when the US D-plant closed but the D code was re-used for a short time for a Chinese plant in 2004.

Below are one of each from March 2002, maybe you can print or scan the photos to compare them to the bag you're looking at.

The C2W-9813 is IDENTICAL to the one in photo I took...back in the car...Thanks, Hyacinth!

It's a genuine Oliver Bag, the details on the ends are probably unique to that style - number 9902 from around 1992, give or take a year
