Here is a pic of the creed the seller gave me!
In case you didn't see Hyacinth's response, it is genuine, and not a Bonnie Cashin since it was made in the late 70s after she left Coach. Congratulations!

Thank you Hyacinth! Were all the Berkely's part suede and part leather?
Yes.
Thanks, whateve. :ty:
You're welcome.

Thank you very much, Whateve.

So it just "appears" authentic to you? :p How to be more sure about it? E.g. more clearer pics?
I don't see any problems at all with it. Any authentication advice I give is just my opinion, based on my knowledge of Coach. I don't like to give absolute answers because there is always a chance I could make a mistake. In this case, I am very confident in my opinion.

You need one of our experts to confirm, but it sure looks like an authentic Coach Bonnie Cashin Courier bag to me.

It's a genuine Courier Pouch, but was made after Bonnie Cashin left Coach. It may be a variation of a Cashin design but it's not Cashin-era.

Thank you all fir confirming the authenticity! It was one of those things where I was just browsing and found this! I live the courier so I had to get it! Without thinking it might be fake. I have a question. How do you know if it is Bonnie Cashin era or not? Ad how does this bag (a variation) or even her designed look different from the ones made in the 80s or so!?! Thank you so much!~ Haw a great day! I'm sure I will neon here again soon!:$

It had to do with dates. Read this excellent Guide written by a tPF member on Coach tags and serial numbers over the years, and add the fact that Cashin stopped designing for Coach in 1974. It's EXTREMELY unlikely that a Cashin-era bag would ever have a serial number except maybe for one of the original ones that were stamped on a strip of leather and glued into the bag, and even that's unlikely.

Based on the SacsMagnifiques1941 guide, I'd estimate the creed in the Courier to be from the late 1970s or early to mid-1980s, but no later than 1987.

Thanks for your honest opinion, Whateve. I appreciate your modesty here.

The bag also looks authentic to me. Now I'm more confident with your opinion. :)

Thanks again.

Also, Whateve, in your opinion, this bag looks in pretty good condition for a vintage bag? And the price is good too?

I have never shopped for vintage bag before. But recently get very interested in the coach legacy line.

I have never shopped for vintage bag before. But recently get very interested in the coach legacy line.

The brown Daypack was made in 1996 so it's not quite Vintage, which is usually defined for handbags as 20 years old or more.

Also, there's no one single "Legacy" line. Coach has used, and still uses, that tag for a lot of different styles and families, many of which have no connections to each other. The only ones bordering on actual vintage are the "name" Legacy styles from Fall 1994 like the Helen's, Janice's, Patricia's, Lulu's, and Faith's Legacy bags. All the other Legacy style are newer and none are vintage.

I see. Thanks Hyacinth. It's very informational. I thought any bag that is not currently in production is a vintage bag. :P

I wasn't a big fan of Coach at all until they re-introduce those legacy styles with no logos.

So in your opinion, the bag in the listing is in pretty good condition considering it's almost 20 years old? and the price point is good?

If you read the first post in this thread written by the Moderator, it says that authenticators aren't supposed to comment on price or even condition, sorry. I don't see any major problems, just average wear. There's some verdigris on the inside zipper which means it's probably on a lot of the other brass too, that has to be completely removed.

Can you post a picture of what you mean? Without knowing what hardware you're talking about, what kind of purse it's on and when it was made, it's impossible to give an answer.

In fact, there's NO "One Rule Fits All" about that kind of thing. Details on Coaches changed constantly and you can never compare the details on one style of purse with another style or plant or year. If you're using what you asked about to authenticate something, please ssk here instead and let us take a look.

If you mean the underside of the oval turnlock, then yes, having indentations where the folded-over prongs fit into instead of a smooth surface is a red flag especially when the prongs are much shorter than the indentations, but turnlock hardware may have been replaced with a non-Coach turnlock, and just on its own IMO isn't proof enough that something's fake, it just means that an expert needs to take a good look at the entire purse. But if you're thinking of buying a Coach purse and it has that kind of turnlock back, hit the Back button or put it back on the shelf if you don't have a chance to ask about it here before buying it.

Nothing that's easily replaceable, like straps, turnlocks, and especially hangtags, should ever be used as the ONLY proof that something's fake. Even more important is a clear photo of the creed stamp and serial number and the area around it.

Is the picture below what you're asking about?

Yes, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and give me this very wise information. The picture shows what I was talking about, and no.. it was not related to any bag in particular, was a general question but it totally makes sense what you said (that's why you are the expert :smile1:), certain parts of a bag can be easily replaced and that doesn't make the bag "fake", it should be examined on all aspects. Great advice that I will keep on mind.
