Thank you Hyacinth. Let me try this again. I found this bag at a yard sale and bought it because I love it more than for the label. It's labeled coach and my daughter believes it's authentic. I won't be broken-hearted either way, but would still like to know if this is authentic or not, on principle.

My links weren't working the last time around.

Thank you ladies for taking the time to help those of us who don't have your expertise!

It looks good. Coach Signature Patchwork Satchel in Khaki.

I don't think this one is a case of a "newer" vs. older serial number.

In this case, the reason for the completely different serial numbers is because they're different styles.

The brown bag is style 9082 (made in 2000) and the red one is style 9134 (made in 1996.)

Note that the seller of the red bag, pursegirl214, mixes fakes and authentic and was discussed earlier this week:

Actually I have questions about the red 9134 by pursegirl214. Do we know when this style was introduced? I thought 1996 was a little early. I am never comfortable with J factory codes. I don't have this bag, but I have 9135 made in 2001 and the ends of the straps are more rounded on mine. I would expect these bags to be virtually identical except for size.

It might say right in one of those earlier posts why the serial number I posted a picture of was fake, those Hippie Flap styles 9134 and 9135 weren't even introduced until Fall of 1999. The fake red purse from " pursegirl214 " also has silver hardware even though the 1996 year code in the red fake is two years before it was ever available on handbags of any kind, as well as a year and month code from more than 3 years before that style and number were even introduced.

A search of the main Coach forum here at tPF for "9134" or "9135" will bring up a page of posts about fakes with those style numbers and why they're fake. They've been discussed more than once. If anyone keeps notes, please make a note of that 1999 date for those two style numbers.

The one by chronic fakes seller PURSEGIRL214 is just as fake and for the same reason - please report. She's relisted since the earlier posts so use this URL for Ebay USA:

Hi! I would love if someone could authenticate this bag for me. It arrived today and to my fingers, it feels like faux leather and the turn locks do not turn, they are just on the outside of the pocket for decoration. I can take more photos if needed. Thanks so much in advance.

I can't believe you think the leather feels faux. The leather on this bag is wonderfully soft. The turnlocks are just for decoration; they aren't supposed to turn. I don't see any problems with the bag. A picture of the creed would be necessary to be completely sure.

Thank you. I was almost positive they were from 1999/2000 but I hadn't put an intro date in my files.

I believe that the first silver hardware styles were available in late 1997. I have a bag with silver hardware that was made in May 1997. I wonder if you know of any other authentic creeds on bags with silver hardware that are earlier. It would be nice to have a "cut-off" date to use as a guideline.

I don't like that leather. I stopped buying women's Coach bags about the time that type of leather came out. It felt like rubber.
