Hi All :] I bought a Madison Mini Satchel (the gathered black leather in chevron pattern with purple lining). I noticed it does not have the leather patched attached to the inside lining that shows the unique identification number for the bag. Is this just because the bag is so small? It came with the Coach price tag attached and all of the hardware is correct on it (I have a Madison small Kelsey and the hardware is identical). Thanks for your help!

Can someone please authenticate this purse for me?
NWT Madison Maggie Shoulder bag in OP Art Sateen Fabric Black Lizard. TIA!!

The bag looks okay however the seller has a misstatement in her listing.

She states that the bag has a "Unique Authentic Serial number." This is incorrect and since 1994, Coach bags have not had unique serial numbers.

And in fact, the seller evidently has 2 of the same bag because she has another listing for the same style with the same "unique" serial number!

We can't authenticate your bag without seeing actual pictures of it but some of Coach's smaller bags and accessories don't have creed patches.

However your reference to creeds showing "unique identification numbers" is incorrect. For the last 20 years, Coach bags haven't had "unique" serial numbers but rather, numbers that indicate month, year, plant code and style number of the item.

This guide tells about serial numbers:

And this one tells about creeds:

Twins...except mine is a beautiful taupe color. I went back and looked at your pics before and after...and I'm a bit envious. My bag was in good condition when I received it but I gave it a bath anyway just to freshen it up and plump up this lighter/thinner leather but I've been unable to get the beautiful sheen you have on yours. I've done all the same things...Leather CPR and Black Rock...twice each. It still feels a bit dry and is dull looking. It still looks dirty in this pic and others I took but it's not. Shadows maybe.

Any suggestions?

I have more pics and can post them but they all look the same. Do you think this color of leather just doesn't have the depth black does? I posted a couple of times in the rescue/rehab thread about the wrinkles in it. I even gave it a second bath...tried ironing it per Whateve's suggestion...it's a beautiful bag but I've become frustrated with it.

Love this color! But it seems to me that the lighter colors just don't have the color depth, like you said. The surface is just different. My best solution for wrinkles or creases is just extra-warm bath water and maybe a longer soak.

I think we're right about the lighter colors not having the depth. The surface does feel different from another bag I have from the lightweight line.

Do I need to do anything about the CPR and BlackRock on it before another warm, longer soak?

Ladies, I welcome thoughts on this bag please.............:smile1: and thank you!!

There is a lot of misinformation in that listing. The bag is authentic. It is a skinny tote #9546. It was made probably in the late 70s or early 80s. It had a serial number at one time. It was glued on that space above "Coach Bag Registration Number." Sometimes people pulled them off. If the seller had thought about it, she would have realized that it makes no sense for it to say "registration number" on the bag if it was made before Coach used them. The zipper pull has been repaired. The style isn't very rare even though it is fairly old. The pocket repair isn't that easy but can be done. There is a detailed account of how one rehabber fixed one in the rehab thread.

I've had problems with rehabbing Lightweights. Maybe the thinner leather doesn't soak up the conditioner as well. I've never tried this, but if I had another one to rehab, I think I would try a different conditioner, like Leather Honey or Leather Therapy, or even mink oil.

I'm in the process of rehabbing my beige lightweights soft satchel. I'm having to sand every millimetre of it because the colour is so uneven and it's been splashed with something. It seems that the colour sits on top of the leather unlike glove tanned leather. It is also so, so dry. When I've finished sanding it, I'm going to slather it in Leather Therapy and wrap it in cling wrap and leave it in the sun and see what happens.
