I am new here on Purse forum. thought I had met requirements with 10 replies posted and over a week for private messaging but I guess not.

I have a question about a Coach bag I bough on Ebay --I can provide the link.

TetonDeb aka Sacs Magnifiques sent me and said she was unfamiliar with the style. thanks, Melissa
The pics are on teh ended listing. Can someone help?

Seller 7859rusty

I'm not comfortable about this bag. The puffy creed and the fact that "coach bag" is shown as one word - coachbag - bother me but please wait for other opinions.

I do want to comment that 7859rusty has a history of mixing fakes and authentic listings. About 7 months ago, the seller had fake Coach signature bags listed. (They were removed by ebay.)

ETA: I just found this listing that he sold, another fake. The title describes it as style "3445" which isn't a valid style number. However, serial number 012-3445 IS a known invalid serial number and I'd bet anything, that's the number on this bag.

Another ETA: Is this the same listing as the one above with 012-3445? Note that that listing was ended early.

This one was subsequently listed and sold WITHOUT reference to the serial number. Note that picture number 5 in this listing is the same as picture #1 in the previous:

The bag in that one listing is probably genuine and from around 1990. There's enough of a gap between "Coach" and "bag" in the creed that I'd consider it a "space" even if it's a small one. But as BeenBurned pointed out, that seller has a history of selling fake bags and of not authenticating their merchandise and I wouldn't recommend buying from them again.

The style was called a Carlyle Bag, style 9854

Thank you, Hyacinth

I've noticed "Speedy" is frequently misused almost as much as "Vintage", "Rare" and "Bonnie Cashin".

And thank you for style numbers and years of production on both responses to my questions.

:smile1:

NOTHING is as misused as "Bonnie Cashin". "Rare" and "vintage" are matters of opinion or accepted definition, but the years Bonnie Cashin designed for Coach are easily available and can be found in just a few seconds on Google. There's no excuse for a seller to mislead buyers about a Cashin connection besides ignorance, laziness or just plain greed, since whether or not a bag is a REAL Bonnie Cashin design makes a difference in the value and sellability. Calling a generic Coach bag a Cashin bag is very deceptive and should be grounds for a SNAD complaint as far as I'm concerned.

I can't stand it when sellers say bags are from the 60s or 70s when they have a style number in the creed. If you don't know and don't want to do the research, then don't mention the age in the listing.

Helloo, im rehabbing this bag and it would make me feel a whole lot better if someone could authenticate this for me, i probably should have done so before buying it but spur of the moment! Im asking because the impression on the hangtag and creed inside is quite faint, thankyou!

I don't see any problems but I can't tell you for sure without a readable picture of the creed.

I saw one the other day that said from the 40's or 50's. Unbelievable that someone could state that without evidence.

I know. And when someone can just click a few links on a computer screen and find out all the facts they could possibly need, there's absolutely NO excuse for that kind of sloppiness other than deviousness, laziness or just plain stupidity. There's no way I would ever buy from such a clueless seller.

Again, laziness or in many cases, reading and believing some bogus "guide" without trying to find accurate information. There's one infamous (to me anyway) guide posted at Ebay that for a long time was a steaming pile of wrong dates and was usually at least ten years off on all of them. It looks like the "writer" (or in this case "copier" since it was originally copied almost word for word from another inaccurate guide posted at another site) took out some of the wrong info but some is still there, and unfortunately gullible people are still using it and referring to it.

So if anyone reading this is still using "mrharley47"s guide, please DON'T!

Boy, I couldn't agree more. Greed, laziness, ignorance and opportunists leveraging search engines. Then there are the sheep - who just grab phrases because everyone else does..which comes back to ignorance and laziness.

Here is an example of a listing where the seller has a legitimate reason to use Bonnie Cashin's name, yet didn't: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231200758319?_trksid=p2055120.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
