This is what I keep: style name, date of purchase, cost, color, year of manufacture and style number. I also have a place to put which scarves or fobs I use with the bag. I have them categorized by size. I also have categories for wallets, vintage, scarves, fobs, coin purses, etc.

For my vintage bags I keep the full creed number to help with authentications, and if I have the original hangtag (I started doing that because I remove them when I rehab so it reminds me whether I'll be able to find a hangtag to put on when I'm done.) I also am trying to take photos of everything in my collection.

I don't keep the original retail price but you might want to. It might be nice to have a stock picture too.

Thank you!! That's great advice!! I love the stock picture idea. So far I have found a stock pic on 1 vintage bag....I try to get a catalog listing from the way back machine. Oh I picked up another rehab project today (a golden yellow Janice from '95).

Title: Coach Black Leather Original USA Flap Turnlock Small Shoulder Crossbody Handbag
Item number: 390775339415
Seller squeezybug

Comments: The serial number looks too thick (although I can't read it). The seller had a fake bag with 0444-315 serial number and another fake wristlet the other day and I still had the window open when I found this listing.

thanks. I have the style number in my files as 7302.

How do you organize your files? Mine are in style number order. When I get a pre-1994 bag, it takes me forever to find it.

Everything is by style number. Photos of pre-94 bags that I don't have a number for are just titled "unk" for unknown until I can find a number.

Text files are also by number with short descriptions, and any unusual details are described with keywords that I can search for easily, like "dowel". Almost every style that's in any of my catalogs is in my text files too.

My text files stop at 9999. That's one reason why I don't authenticate most newer bags.

I just looked at the creed in that listing again and I see "SCRTCHES."

FAKE.

The style doesn't look familiar and I've never seen a bag with a full-length top handle like that, the strap wasn't made by Coach - note the rivets on the ends, and I'm not sure but the number could be 233-5678 which is on both my and Daria48's Fake Numbers lists. It also looks like "scrtches" is missing the "a".

Thanks. It's been removed already. (I did catch the misspelled "scratches/scrtches" but it was after I'd made the first post.)

It's always surprising to me when a seller who sells as much Coach as squeezybug doesn't know and recognize some of the obvious red flags in the bags she lists.

I'm posting this here because I'm wondering if there is a chance that the bag could have been a sample which might account for the wrong creed.

It's possible but there's no way to prove it. The A plant did make some samples.

I had a number for that style somewhere but can't find it now.

thanks. I have the style number in my files as 7302.

Found it - Medium Top Handle Tote. I have a few pics of a genuine one with a B7C- prefix and an outlet stamp. The details look the same so it could have been a sample or pilot bag.

You're welcome. I've gotten a lot of my stock photos from the wayback machine. A yellow Janice? That sounds gorgeous!

Everything is by style number. Photos of pre-94 bags that I don't have a number for are just titled "unk" for unknown until I can find a number.

Thanks. I need to start adding more keywords to my files.

Really? I've never seen one in that color - hope you're going to post it here so we can see! And it's always a good idea to have it authenticated anyway, especially when a bag is an unusual color.

Bedford Combo Wallet Checkbook with Back Zip, probably from around 2000 and introduced in the Spring 2000 catalog along with the cosmetic case, style 6996.
