I need some help authenticating this. It looks like a reverse suede basic bag, but there's no creed, tag, stamp, patch anything anywhere. Thanks for your help! The measurements are:

Width (front side to side): 11”
Height (top to bottom): 7”
Depth (front to back at bottom): 2¼”
Shoulder handle drop: 19”
Wristlet strap: 6½” long (doubled)

One last shot...anyone know?

Welcome to the purse forum.

I had the identical bag...and back in 2009 I paid to have it "authenticated" by the Bonnie Cashin Foundation. (They no longer offer that service.)

The bag is definitely an authentic Coach, but I was told that the bag does NOT appear in any Cashin-Coach records. They commented that "the relative complexity of your bag further suggests it was done by someone else". They dated it to the mid-1970s, after Cashin left the company, and they assumed that Coach was using up the striped lining material that was left over after Cashin left. They also could not find any bag in the Cashin archives that showed even a similar strap attachment.

Nice little vintage bag...just not a Cashin design.

:smile1:
Thank you so much!!! I think I'm going to like this forum :-)

It certainly looks like Coach quality and it also looks like a reverse suede Basic Bag...though I've never seen one before. I also have seen 2 older genuine Coach bags with that odd "paperclip like" bent zipper pull attachment.

However, I don't know how you would prove it's a Coach when it has no markings on the bag at all. (Except the hang tag). If it was made during the time that Coach was using those little black/white metal tags that fell off over time. Even if the little holes were still in the leather, that would go a long way to being positive that it's authentic, but other than that, I just don't know. Sorry.

Thanks DemRam... I hoped that there would be little marks from the previous tag (metal), that's why I got the underzipper shots...just can't tell :( It's so beautiful. I love anything reverse suede.

A quick note for Hyacinth -

Wasn't this one of the styles that appeared to have been made in 1993 only? This one is very early 1994:

Item: COACH Authentic Vintage Rare Black Leather 9916
Listing number: 181143745748
Seller: mnsmiley1989

Yes, it's genuine. Like many of the dates I've mentioned or posted, there's always a chance that some bags may have been made a little before or after the dates I gave. I'm going by what I've seen in catalogs and what I've observed and obviously I don't have every bit of information available.

ETA - another poster emailed me that the three styles with that V-front are actually shown in her 1994 Preview catalog, but they're not in my 1994 Spring catalog. So apparently they were discontinued very early in 1994.

Comments: I'm curious what style number this bag is supposed to be. The seller is apparently having trouble reading the creed patch, and the photo of it isn't much help.

Thank you!

It can't be -995s, and 9958 is a very different style. The style matches a Faith's Legacy from 1994 but that style number was 9949 and that doesn't look like the number on the creed. It's always possible that they made a mistake stamping the serial number.

Thanks, Hyacinth - that's great to know. As always, I appreciate your input -- and your willingness to share what you've learned with the rest of us!

Yes, that's the only one I could come up with, too. I guess I was just too focused on the 995_ style number, not considering that perhaps someone just goofed with the stamping.

By the way, that picture of the Faith's Legacy just reminded me... A while back, you posted about the names "behind" the various "___'s Legacy" bags, and I wanted to thank you for that - I found it all positively intriguing!

Thanks again!

They all look ok. The fourth is a Lexington Bucket, the third is an Ergo Mini Zip.
