Thank you everyone for the help. The seller is kindly is offering a refund upon return of the bag. I believe she intends to sell it again after checking into it with Coach:

Hello again,
I will refund you an extra $5.85 (the original shipping price) after I receive the Coach purse back. I'm still going to call Coach directly after I receive the purse back and have it in my hands to talk with them. I do trust the lady that I bought the purse from & know that forums are not 100% the truth. I would like to know also for when I relist the purse. After looking into it, I realized I did sell this kind of cheap so I don't mind at all that you are sending it back!

Thank you again for your assistance! From now on, I will always check here first. :smile1:
I'm glad you're getting your money back. We'll keep an eye on that seller to see if she tries to sell it again.

I can't read the creed on the first one and the seller's description is wrong. It looks like it says D7E-9953, and I think it says Made in the United States, which would make it invalid. If the letter I think is a E is really a B, then it might be okay.

I'm not sure about the second one. It has a error in the month code, but that plant was known to make mistakes. It also seems like the M plant kept switching between the US and Costa Rica during 1996. What bothers me a little is that the font looks more like the font they used in the US than the one for Costa Rica, but I can't find any Costa Rican creeds for the same date that aren't Sonomas.

There are a couple of problems with the top zipper pull and the "piping" around the base of the bag (WHAT is that rounded piece of trim correctly called anyway? Someone please post the name and I promise to save it!) The "piping" is probably the biggest problem.

The M plant code was switched between several different plants that year, and it COULD have been used for a US plant some time around the middle of the year.

It's either questionable or fake, and I personally wouldn't buy it. Just my opinion.

M was a code that was used both for US and Costa Rica, apparently at the same time. Silver hardware was introduced in 1997. I don't believe the bag is authentic. The font of the creed and prefix is off, and there is no period at the end. That's not a mistake Coach would make.

We're at the start of another week-long heat wave 40C (104 F) today and set to rise through the week. Not sure which is worse?

I think this is good but I'd appreciate your opinion, please.

It's genuine.

And I'll take cold waves over heat waves ANY time!

Good luck, and hang in there!
Yesterday it was 75 F here. I was burning up since I foolishly wore a sweater. It is winter, after all.

I don't feel good about the plant code on the first one either, it looks like an E to me too.

That time period for the M plant code is really confusing. What few stamps are in my files seem to show that both creed and serial number stamps were changed right around mid-year 1996, maybe at slightly different times. The stamp on the one being asked about seems ok to me, but I'm posting the other creeds I have from the same plant and time for comparison, from earliest to latest.
