Comments: Is April 1995 too early for a 9991? Had the "H" plant changed to the new creed wording already by then? Is there anything obviously amiss?

Thanks very much!

Someone responded to the seller. It sounds as though the seller didn't knowingly list a fake but that doesn't excuse her.

Perhaps if you refer her here, she might be open to learning more about Coach.

Hi all - After posting my thrift treasures, I was reminded that I have a backlog of bags that I need to authenticate. I will be interested to see how I did. I've got 13 bags total (whew!) and am posting links to photos rather than fill the whole thread (you will see in some of the photos that I got some help from Steve, the Coach Cat, who is my #1 rehab assistant) - will break up into three posts to make it easier to identify them.

Thanks in advance and without further ado, the first batch:

Let me try this again. Sorry for the error.

I've never seen that tag before. I have the small Sophia made in the same plant in the same month, and the creed matches. The bag looks authentic. This bag was recently sold on the Factory Online Sale. It is possible they created this tag for that sale. Since there is no bullseye on the creed, it would alert the SAs that it was bought at a factory price if it were returned without a receipt. You could ask on the FOS discussion thread if anyone got the same tag with their purchase of this bag.

ETA: I forgot your original question. PH stands for parchment, but this bag is gray, right? It could be a tagging error.
I agree that the bag looks good. I've seen those "different" tags on items where they've made replacement tags at store level, i.e., in the back room of the outlet (or boutique.)

You've got a few of the names wrong. 11 is a Janice's Legacy, 12 is a Small Legacy Flap, and 13 is a Legacy Zip. I've heard #9 called a Legacy Hobo. I don't see any problems with any of these.

Just a note: someone started calling 9965 a Trail bag and it has really caught on. The real Trail bag doesn't look anything like that.

Oh LORD!!! Seriously? I always authenticate after the sale because I usually just spontaneously see something and buy it! The times that I've submitted something here...the second it's authenticated.... I go back to buy it and it sold 2 seconds before I got there. I just always assumed people watch this thread then run and buy something they didn't actually have to do the work to check out! I'll be more careful as well...thanks Been Burned!
And I realize that's the reason a lot of people don't want to post their authentication requests while listings are still live. They fear either losing the item or driving up the price.

But for sellers to have to wait for payment for authentications is unfair because when bids or purchases are made, there are popups (to the buyer) reaffirming the "contract" nature of the bid and that you're obligated to complete purchase.

Better to do is to authenticate and report the fakes so the next potential buyer doesn't get taken.

I understand that there are circumstances where you don't find the listing and there isn't enough time to authenticate ahead of time and that's totally understandable, but my post was referring to making nearly every purchase prior to asking questions and verifying authenticity.

As an authenticator, I'm sure others agree that we hate to see any buyer scammed with a fake. And often, it's not until they've received a fake that they even discover TPF and the ability to find out ahead of time that they can vet their purchases before bidding.

But OTOH, as a seller, I love educated buyers. I don't mind at all if a potential buyer verifies authenticity prior to bidding. But I'd find it frustrating to know that a buyer is waiting to pay me after having committed to it, as she awaits authentication after the sale.

I'm not sure I'm explaining well, but what I'm trying to say is that it's best to authenticate before committing. If you back out of enough sales after learning that items are fake, you risk naru for non-completion -- even though the reason for non-payment is valid. It just should have been done before the purchase. KWIM?

ETA: Note that my references to authentications after the sale are specific to Ebay. When buying at garage sales, thrifts, consignment stores, etc., of course authentications would be after the fact.

Did you name your cat Steve from Family Guy?

I'm not really familiar with the first one but I don't see any problems. The others look fine.

It looks like the original listing has been removed so without photos there isn't much anyone can say to justify their original comments. However, I remember the "puffy" creed I mentioned, although I can't remember the creed wording. But here's one example of why the puffy creeds in US bags don't add up.

The first two photos are non-puffy creeds from the H plant, January and October 1996. If this was a new plant Coach would have given it one of the new-style creed stamps they started switching to in 1994, the "variations in the grain" style with the country of origin included in the second sentence of the creed. Both these H plant bags have the new-style stamp

The third is a questionable "puffy" creed supposedly from a month later than the first photo, February 1996, but it still has the old "scars, scratches..." wording and the Made In... at the bottom of the creed. I don't believe this is genuine and I've never seen proveably genuine middle-1990s bags with China-style puffy creeds. The very wide double border around the Coach logo at the top of the creed is also very unusual. The words are almost unreadable which is another red flag.

I was able to pull up a cache of the listing and the pictures.

Could someone please authenticate this listing? I believe it's the same item previously listed here as fake, but relisted.

Thanks.

Thanks, Whateve - I messed on the Janice's and the Legacy Zip. Too many bags going at once, I guess. Thanks for the info on the name of the Legacy Flap, probably picked up Trail Bag on the Bay or something.
