Oh, I hear you, and I don't disagree.

It's not as if a "real" hang tag on a fake bag is going to fool anyone who knows anything about authenticity (which is, apparently, the reason eBay uses for not allowing them to be sold.) eBay has its odd quirks (to put it mildly.) If they spent less time worrying about hang tags & dust bags and more time removing actual counterfeits, we'd all be a lot better off.

I have a theory about that, of course (as in, what don't I have a theory about?) I figure that if they can count small stuff like hang tags & dust bags in their "number of counterfeits removed," they look as if they're actually doing something to tackle the counterfeits problem. Even if (just to pull a number out of the air) 85 out of every 100 Coach "removed items" are hang tags and/or dust bags, they can still say, "Look, we removed 100 Coach items under our anti-counterfeits program!" That does make it sound as if they're making progress.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I don't disagree with you at all. I was just posting that info about "the rules" because it might be of some help to a seller who doesn't know. It's hard enough to keep a clean record as a seller without getting slammed for dumb stuff like not knowing you can't sell a hang tag.

eBay is not my favorite company, by any means. I stopped selling there a few years ago (after a long stretch, with feedback numbers in the thousands) because I thought things had gotten too bad to make the effort worthwhile. Ha! It's way worse now, and I give sincere credit to any honest seller who can continue to fight the fight and not go absolutely crazy. I know that I myself just don't have it in me to put up with all of eBay's nonsense.
One of the authentic Coach bags I bought on ebay came with a fake hangtag!

I've noticed they don't seem to remove listings for straps even though those weren't sold separately. There was a seller recently who sold a strap for a station bag for something like $35, then sold the station bag for $20. She did this with a bunch of bags, getting more for the straps than the bags.

What really irks me are the sellers who realize they can get more money if they sell the hangtags separately, but I also realize there are people who never use the additional strap or remove the hangtags from their bags and they should be able to sell those, IMO.

Good morning!
Finally decided to part with this awesome bag...
It measures about 12.5" x 7.5" x 3.5".
(I added the brass tone hang tag of course)
I am 99% sure it is authentic but would like that affirmed (right word?).
Would the color be "sage"?
AND if anyone knows anything about it like name or style number , year of issue, etc.
Thanks!!
It's a skinny flight bag. I think the number is 9706 from the early 80's. It could be sage or putty.

Could someone please authenticate this Coach bag?
Bought at Goodwill today...I seem to be having a "red" streak!
Approx. 8.5”w x 7”h x 4”d Handles 5.5” to bag top. Detachable strap drop 23” to rings
Is this a 1998 Bleeker Convertible Zip? or what"
Any info is always appreciated...thanks in advance!
Whoa, it even came with the strap? So jealous! I don't have the name in my files but it appears authentic. Maybe something like small Bleecker bucket.

And to make it all that much more special, here's a few shots of the T as in NWT!!

HOLY COW

The tag, numbers, and anything attached to it is a total fake. No price, no valid style number, NOTHING. A Poppy Sig New Willis? REALLY???? That doesn't look like any Willis I've ever seen. They're not even from the same line or class of bags! And I'd love to know what the apparently Chinese characters say - probably "Gotcha, Capitalist Running Dog!" No wonder the seller didn't show the inside of the tag.

Next time you're tempted to buy anything while not 100 percent rational, please stop here at tPF first and ask for an intervention. One of us will talk you down. ;)

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM SELLER " mahmoodnawal "

Could someone please authenticate this MFF Coach Key Ring Wallet?
Also from Goodwill.
Approx. 4.75”w x 3.25”h x 1”d closed...4.75”w x 6.5”h open
Has outlet dot on fabric tag as well as outlet bullseye...
Does it have a name, age, serial number...all info is appreciated...Thanks!

Genuine but the name and number aren't in my files - I usually don't save pictures or information on accessories. There are just too many of them and so many seem to be MFF and almost impossible to track down names or numbers or any information.

It's a Bleecker Small Basket, introduced as an early 1999 style.

The color might be Tabac. Sage isn't in any of my mid-80s color sample pages. It was probably introduced some time between very late 1983 and 1985, and discontinued by early 1989.

Definitely not tabac. If you see it in person it is a grayish greenish, definitely in the olive family.
Maybe the putty - that makes more sense cause it has that muddy kind of tone.

Hmmmm...it's not skinny though, it' s a little over 3" deep. When did the NYC factory close?

That's what Coach called it though. Go figure. See the picture below.

There are no solid dates for the NYC factory. They stopped using the Made in NYC stamp in early 1988 but that was because more plants were added, not because the plant itself was closed - it stayed open although production was probably gradually scaled back.

The NYC "A" plant seems to have been mostly de-activated by 1994 when Coach started adding plant codes to serial numbers, but there were still a few bags being made there, mostly samples and pilot bags but once in a while some regular production bags that maybe the other plants didn't have the capacity to produce. We've seen probable NYC-made bags until at least the middle to later-1990s.

The NYC location had become Coach's home office but it seems like there was at least a small group of craftsmen there all the way through and may still be there for all we know. Maybe Tetondeb can peek behind a few doors during her visit to the archives and let us know. :D
