Just to play Devil's Advocate here, the buyer who left the Neg for an "Authentic Plaid Coach Purse" said in her FB "i recived the purse took it to coach and it was a fake waiting on refund". And we all know what usually happens when you take a genuine bag to a Coach store for "authentication". :graucho:

So I'm not giving a lot of credence to that Negative. Ninety-five percent of Coach store employees would look at a plaid bag (and Coach made many different plaid styles in the early 2000s) and say that Coach never made it. If it didn't have Cs all over it it had to be fake, right?
Yes, I had looked up that info before BB had mentioned it and thought the same thing! Okay, will take your advice, Hyacinth and not report...I did send her back this message though (before I posted on here) :P
"Firstly, you may want to change your tone...you sound angry which isn't usually conducive to selling an item....secondly, I am not being unreasonable by asking for a photo of the creed or at least typing out what the creed says....those who know and buy Coach would NEVER buy without seeing the creed. I notice that you have 17 stars and are a new seller to Ebay...you may want to read and learn vs getting defensive. Happy Holidays."

no response ;)

Also genuine, and probably the dustbag too.

The Sig Soft Striped Demi is ok, and probably the keyfob too, those usually aren't in my files.

It looks ok

YAY...YIPPEE...YAHOO...it was a wonderful Coach-buying extravanganza...As always, many, many thanks!

Authentic.

Authentic.

Coach made several similar styles but this does appear to be 7327.

Here's a picture of a box (authentic) with the labeling from that fob. Most of the white with brown boxes are fake but 9-ish years ago, keychains came in these boxes.

Thanks, BB, I love it when I get extra pictures :)

When a seller goes to list a Coach bag, there is a message at the top of the page that says something like, "thank you for selling your Coach item on ebay. Make sure you include a picture of the storypatch..." There is no excuse for not showing a picture of the creed since ebay clearly reminds them to do so.

I usually also tell sellers that I like to see the creed because it tells me when and where the bag was made, and that is important to me.

Hi everyone and happy holidays!
Unfortunately I am not having a good time on this beautiful Sunday.
I'm not sure how to approach this but I had a buyer open a case against me on ebay and
need to show her that the bag she purchased is authentic.
It is so unfair for sellers to get hit with this dispute/claim because ebay will almost
automatically side with the buyer and then we are at risk for negs and violations and all that stuff.
Should I just list bag as a request for authentication?
I'd like her to see more than "it's authentic" , at least explaining to her WHY it is.
Any advice, help would be really appreciated!!

I'm sorry this has happened to you. You can post a link to the original listing. There is no problem in posting a link for your own listing if the listing isn't active. Also tell us what allegations the buyer is making so we can address those issues specifically. Unfortunately, ebay doesn't consider the purse forum to be an authority for authentications.

Thanks so much!
Her explanation was vague " Oh, dear, I am sorry to say this purse is NOT leather and NOT a real Coach item. I am very disappointed. I would have expected that you would have spotted that immediately, as I did. Please advise soonest. Preview: I am NOT willing to buy return postage for a counterfeit item. This is not a case of 'changed mind' or 'buyer's remorse.' I would be glad to mail it back to you, but I want a full refund of original price, original shipping and return shipping. Thank you for your consideration".
I did respond and ask her what specifically makes her think it is not authentic, but have not rec'd a reply yet.

I wonder what proof she has that it isn't real leather. This isn't my area of expertise so I'll wait for Beenburned to respond, but I don't see any problems with the bag at all. In the past when I, as a buyer, disputed something that cost so little, ebay refunded me and let me keep the bag. I suspect they didn't charge the seller either. I have no experience in dealing with disputes as a seller. I would think that a seller with a vast amount of positive feedback would be given the benefit of the doubt.

If I dispute her claim and let ebay resolve it and issue her a refund, whether thru my funds or theirs,
I would get a record of having an unresolved CLAIM against me, which is permanently on record. It affects whether or not you can be rated as a top rated seller, etc. The list is endless. So I would never have ebay decide the outcome of a case. As a seller who has experience with the dispute process, you learn it is better to just agree to whatever the buyer wants, but it's the principle that kills me. I do accept returns for any reason, but to have to pay both shipping expenses (not even required by ebay if I am at fault) it's just not fair.
PS - It is DEFINITELY leather!

To add another opinion - that bag was definitely made by Coach and is definitely leather. It was even sold through the Coach Factory Store and is marked accordingly. The hardware is exactly right, the creed is right, and here's Coach's own archive photo for style # 7542, Hamptons Leather Buckle Demi

(You might also want to post the buyer's name or a link to her Ebay Feedback page so that other members here can "update their records").

And to add another layer of evidence - the Wayback Machine's saved copy of Coach's Handbags webpage from April 6, 2004 showing the identical bag, here's the link. Note that Coach describes it as "lightweight leather" so it's not going to feel the same as the glove-tanned cowhide bags:

Thank you Whateve and Hyacinth, as always quick to come to our aid!!
I am waiting on a response (impatiently, I can't do anything I get so flummoxed - is that really a word?)

that "WAY BACK" is so cool? Wherever did you find it?

I can imagine how you feel. It isn't a lot of money - it is just the principle. If you opt into managed returns, all the buyer has to do is claim it isn't as described and ebay will charge you for the original shipping and the return shipping. The buyer doesn't have to prove her claim and the seller doesn't get to argue.

If you accept the return but don't agree to pay the return shipping charges, I don't think the buyer can open a claim just for shipping charges. There is nothing to stop the buyer from leaving negative feedback though.

My mistake was in looking for it in 2005!
that "WAY BACK" is so cool? Wherever did you find it?
It is the Internet Archive. You can look up any webpage from the past, provided they archived it. There are large periods where it doesn't work for Coach, though.
