EBay is making me old. They removed this as a fake. Please authenticate so I can spend the next hour on hold with them :)

This may just be a coincidence, but someone I know also had a Coach satchel removed recently. She thought they were calling it fake, but it turned out that LV had had it removed because she had called it a "Speedy" bag. They apparently have a trademark on that name... (Rather like Hermes & "Kelly")

Did you by chance call yours a "Speedy"? LV may be on a rampage (???)

Good point! There are a number of posts on the ebay purse and clothing boards about "Kelly" bags being removed by Gucci VeRO and "Birkin" being removed by Hermes.

While I'm not sure that "speedy" is a copyrighted term, it's a possibility that it's the reason. Look at the takedown notice carefully and see what it says for the reason for removal.

ETA: I saw the same bag on "another site" and you did use "speedy" to describe it.

If the listing is a VeRO takedown, you'll know that because at the bottom of the removal notice, there's a VeRO contact email. Contact them and ask why it was removed. (Personally, I can't imagine that "speedy" would be copyrightable since it can be used as a adjective in so many ways. But what do I know?)

I just went & looked it up. It seems that LV does have the trademark:

On Wednesday, March 14, 2007, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for SPEEDY by Louis Vuitton Malletier. The USPTO has given the SPEEDY trademark serial number of 79042018. The current federal status of this trademark filing is REGISTERED. The correspondent listed for SPEEDY is Julia Anne Matheson of Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dun, 901 New York Avenue, N.W., Washington DC 20001 . The SPEEDY trademark is filed in the category of Leather Products (not including clothing) . The description provided to the USPTO for SPEEDY is Leather and imitation leather products, namely, boxes of leather or imitation leather for packaging and carrying goods, trunks, suitcases, traveling sets comprised of bags or luggage, traveling bags, luggage, garment bags for travel, hatboxes for travel, unfitted vanity cases sold empty, toilet bags sold empty, rucksacks, satchels, handbags, beach bags, shopping bags, carry-all bags, shoulder bags, waist bags, purses, attaché cases, briefcases, clutch bags, handbags; small goods made of leather, namely, wallets, change purses, key cases, business card cases, calling card cases, credit card cases, telephone card cases; umbrellas, parasols.

Maybe they've decided to enforce it on eBay now?

No...it wasn't VERO... had that happen on a "kelly" green ergo though with Hermes...so dumb!

Here's the message"

Bwahahahaha....someone better tell Warner Brothers they'll have to change it to "very fast" Gonzalez and "speedy" is no longer available!

HELP ASAP....on the phone with Ebay now. They are saying that per their policy... we now have to have an official certificate of authenticity with each Coach bag that we list. Guys... I have over 100 listed and over 500 in stock.

Not even sure how to respond to this honestly. The Coach store/customer service is a joke... Jed and the archives aren't going to waste their time with this.

Thoughts?

Total BS! That is so NOT their policy!

Is it a "regular" CSR on the phone? Can you ask to speak to a supervisor? Or call back & speak with someone else? Are you speaking with a US rep, or someone overseas?

First it was a very limited english speaker. I asked for a supervisor then customer service specialist called me back from the Utah office. This is not going to end well...for any of us.

I've got a call back coming now. I'll update then.

And don't forget Alka-Seltzer!

BTW, your Broadway Satchel Spectator looks completely genuine - style 6891.

Poor little Alka Seltzer!!!!

It is genuine of course!!!! I have had or do have 20+ of these...not sure what's going on with Ebay but I'm sure it has something to do with all the counterfeits.

Hyacinth...get out your rubber stamps and certificates...you're going to be busy!!!:graucho:

That's complete BS - there's absolutely NOTHING in Ebay's posted rules that requires a CoA. Tell them you want the URL of the page where that rule is posted.

And then tell them that they'll have to remove all those other 60-some-thousand Coach listings that don't have one, along with the several hundred thousand OTHER name-brand purses - which should make Griff VERY happy. (You might want to mention that, BTW - ask them if Griff knows that all his sellers are going to have to pay between 40 and 75 dollars PER PURSE to get certificates for all of their handbags. And if that doesn't work, contact Ina at Auctionbytes. AND Griff, if he has one of his radio shows on in the next few days).

Someone at Ebay must have hijacked a shipment of medical marijuana and passed it around.
