Given the notice from eBay, thought it best to run it by you guys since I am still within my 45 day Buyer Protection period.

It is red with brown jacquard lining with the Coach lozenge. I've posted photos here:

Please let me know if you have any concerns or need more photos. (I took the photos in a hurry so they could be better.) Thanks so much!

P.S. OMG! MY EYES!!!! (Thanks Whateve for the Theme Switcher, I was getting queasy.)

Listings can also be removed when the seller has an outstanding bill, an expired credit card (so fees can't be billed) and other reasons.

If the takedown notice didn't refer to an implication of trademark violation, chances are that it wasn't removed as fake.
Thank BeenBurned and Whateve - I went back and looked for the seller's other listings and you are right, the seller has been "disappeared," all the listings are unavailable. I've been on eBay a long time (since 1999) and this is the first time I've seen this.

While I'm here, does anyone know if Coach ever had different versions of the Scooter bag? I bought a vintage Basic bag and the seller included a "free gift" in the package. This bag is trying really hard to be a Scooter bag - the creed is absolutely illegible but it seems like the serial number is A5B-9893.

The creed, however, is in the main pocket of the bag and not in the front like a Scooter and the bag has a slip pocket inside the main pocket which a Scooter bag does not have. In the photos comparing the sizes, a real Scooter bag is on the left.

An interesting side note on the basic bag I received, it has a zipper I've not seen before. The Talon Zipper we all know and love has a cap that holds the pull ring in place. This basic bag has a non-Talon zipper with a hinged cover that holds the pull ring in place. Photos below.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the "Not-Scooter" bag.

My NYC basic bag has the same zipper. i never noticed the hinge before.

We've seen at least one Scooter before like that one.

I remembered this auction that Socmoe posted. I guess she didn't win, because I couldn't find follow up photos:

I remember comparing that one to the Scooter I have (#9893) and how there isn't an inside slip pocket in that bag and there are also posts about #9978, which people call the Sidepack - the straps on that one look like they are connected on the back side. I'm withholding judgment until Hyacinth takes a look.

We talked about the same problem of the "two Scooters" on March 11. One possible explanation is that my catalogs seem to show that the original Scooter style 9893 that came out in Summer of 1991 was apparently discontinued some time in 1992 or 93, before Coach started using the style number 9893 as part of the serial number. The one with the January 1995 serial ending in -9893 may have been a re-issue of the style (Coach did a LOT of re-issues and "tributes" including all the original "names" Legacy line and other older bags in 1994-95) and maybe the details were slightly changed for the newer version.

It doesn't seem likely that anyone would have made a fake of a style using valid 1995 production codes when the original style had never appeared with those codes or with the -9893 style number in the bag. So if all the original all-number Scooters are slightly different from all the post-1994 bags with the style numbers, that's probably what happened.

Yes, I did not win that auction so I don;t have follow up phots. sorry :(

I'm not completely comfortable with this one, both because of the strap grommets and the R plant code. I can't find any other Rs in my file from 2003 although that doesn't prove it's fake, just unproven.

And a BIG Thanks to Whateve for the hint about the "Theme Switcher" - I couldn't handle looking at the page for more than 15 seconds!

Thank you so much for your help. Yes, thank you Whateve, my eyes were in pain!

Thank you, Hyacinth. I can already predict that I am going to lose sleep crawling eBay like Nancy Drew trying to solve the "Mystery of the Two Scooters."

Socmoe - thanks for the follow up. Sorry you didn't win!

Hello,
I just made my first coach bag purchase on ebay, a Black Court bag. I was wondering if you could authenticate this for me?

item: Coach Classic Court Leather BlackShoulder Bag Crossbody Purse #9870 Vintage

listing#: 261192177020

ebay seller: pursehunter3

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261192177020?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

the # inside the bag says No. E56-9870

Thank you so much in advance!
It's fine. The number is actually E5C-9870.

It's an authentic convertible clutch. I'm not sure if that strap is original to the bag. I've never seen one with a double strap but then again, I've never seen one this old. There aren't really two open interior pockets - there is the main body of the purse and a pocket under the flap - I think that is what the seller is referring to.
