Interesting question. I personally have never seen a 1998 bag made in China but I just found a briefcase on ebay with the same creed but different style number. I have never seen this style either and I can't find any information about the style number. In 1998, Coach made the Kensington Brief which had a tab and turnlock that looks just like this one, but the stitching on this one looks a little crooked (or is that just the angle of the picture?) It is possible that they used nylon zippers to make it lighter weight even though metal zippers were the norm. What really bothers me is the zipper pulls. Can you take a picture of the embossing on the rivet?

Could someone please help with authentication and also any information on the specifics (name, color, age, etc) would be appreciated. It needs a little rehab, scratches, water (?) marks and ink...so if I know what I have then I will know which cleaning method from the rehab sticky to use. Thanks:smile1:

It looks like a canteen bag from the early 90's. I think it might be british tan in color. If you give a bath, you will be able to reshape it.

Coach was making business and travel bags and other items in China as early as 1996, and the S plant code is valid. I don't see any problems with it.

ETA:
The early bags from the China plant(s) were mentioned in the Salearea Guide on serial numbers:
"Coach bags have been made in the USA, Italy, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Hungary, Turkey, Thailand, China, India, and Vietnam. Coach will also be making bags in the Philippines and other countries where they can find affordable labor, and they have made accessories like wallets in even more places such as France and Spain among others. Only the Asian plants (except for Turkey and Thailand) are still active at this time (2013). Production moved almost completely to China starting in 2000 although some Business and Travel items were made there as early as 1996..."

You didn't give any measurements for the bag and I don't have the number on file but my guess would be some kind of Turnlock Clutch from the Travel line.

Thanks Whateve & Hyacinth. The bag measures 10-1/4 x 7 x 3. It never ceases to amaze me the knowledge hidden away with you ladies :)

This is an authentic Coach Ali hobo #13647. This was a FP bag made in 2009. I don't know if it is Cervo leather - it might just be pebbled leather.
