VERY fake! The "P" plant code belongs to Costa Rica, NOT the US, the magnetic snap is a cheap fake and not one of the name-brand and US Patent-numbered snaps that Coach uses, the cut and stitching of the trim around the inside pocket is really bad, and the style is supposed to be a Chelsea Satchel with Coach logo lining. The photo below shows a genuine creed from the US "D" plant and is the style number preceding the bag you're asking about.

And here's a listing for another bag in the same Chelsea line, made in the US and with the Logo lining:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Vinta...954?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item27d02715ca

I'm also posting a photo of a GENUINE creed with the J8P- prefix, the codes stand for - J-9th month (September), 8 - 1998, and P - Costa Rica plant. The P plant code would NOT have been used for a different plant in the same month and year.

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone - this isn't an authentication question, but help with eBay's resolution center. I filed a dispute on the fake bag and the seller wanted me to return the bag at my own cost. I opened a case with the eBay resolution center including a link to Hyacinth's post and the photos of the bag. In my note to them I pointed out that the bag was counterfeit.

I just received a response and they have told me that in order to obtain a refund I have to return the bag at my own expense. No mention in the form reply that the bag is fake - just that it is "not as described" and that I will get a refund when I pay to return the bag. (My original cost including shipping was $33).

There is no obvious way to appeal this or get an actual person to think about what is going on here. I'm not happy with the fact that I'm out money and effort because someone sold me a fake bag.

Advice/commiseration? I have until March 6 to ship the bag.

Call ebay. You might get someone on the phone that will understand your situation. Emphasize that the bag is counterfeit, it is illegal to sell counterfeits or aid in the sale of counterfeits, and you have proof that it is counterfeit.

Unfortunately, ebay policy states that it's the buyer who pays the return shipping. Although not obligated, an honorable seller would make her buyer whole and not have that buyer be out any money because of seller error but again, the seller isn't obligated to reimburse you.

You can ship the least expensive way (as long as it's postmarked by the stated date so you can calculate both parcel select/parcel post and priority mail. My guess is that there won't be a huge price difference between the two for a small bag like this. Be sure to have delivery confirmation/tracking for the return.

In this case, if the seller isn't willing to cover the return shipping, IMO, she has rightly earned a negative feedback. Although she may not have intentionally sold a fake, it's a seller's responsibility to know and verify authenticity before listing and clearly, she didn't do that.

Good luck.

Comments: Obviously counterfeit, right? Among other things, creed says made in Korea. Was wondering if the right thing to do is report it or to contact the seller first. They don't seem to sell many handbags, and have pictured the creed prominently, so it seems likely they are unaware they have a fake.

^^^ Yes, that's the dead giveaway.

Report the fake.

Hi ladies,

I ran across this keychain on Poshmark and thought it looked suspicious. I inquired and the seller stated that they purchased it from Coach.com a few years ago, but I wanted to see what your thoughts are.

Comments: C's look different and the texture/font on the back look like a fake I received a few years ago.

Incidentally, it looks like another item was posted by the same seller that also looks odd to me:

In case the above links don't work, here is a link to screen shots I took from my phone.

Thank you in advance! :smile1:

The pictures of the purse aren't very clear but it doesn't look like any Coach I've seen. The zipper pull on the inside is definitely wrong. It is impossible to read the creed or see any other details that would further prove that it isn't authentic.

I don't know a lot about keychains but there are several things that make me doubt its authenticity. I've never seen one with that star pattern on the reverse sides. The Coach lozenge and the font of the word "Coach" on the reverse looks like other fakes I've seen. The C's on the front are the wrong shape.

Thanks all for the information.

UPDATE: I found the (non-obvious) way to escalate my issue and submitted a write up at around midnight last night arguing that it defied logic that a seller could sell a counterfeit item (even if it was an honest mistake) and that the outcome was that the seller was made whole, while the buyer would be in a worse situation than before. I also pointed out that sellers would have no incentive to authenticate their items if sales of counterfeit items were handled as a garden-variety "not as described."

I had a reply as of 3am stating that I would receive a full refund via paypal. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, I suppose. I am planning to give neutral feedback pointing out failure to authenticate because the seller did immediately offer a full refund if I returned the bag. Info:

I agree. The keychain is a complete fake, for the reasons Whateve mentioned, and the shape of the Cs are nothing like any of Coach's trademarked C fonts. It's a bad ripoff of the Summer Mix keychain style 92079 shown below which was only made in that blue and green combination. If you can report fakes at that site please do so.

The white bag is also a total fake. That style was never made by Coach. and none of the hardware is even close to the designs Coach uses, Again, please report if you can. That seller is either dishonest or irresponsible and other site members need to be warned.

This isn't directed toward you since this you didn't know about tPF before you got stuck with that fake, but I wanted to re-emphasize to posters who have known about this forum or have been members for a while how important it is to get designer items authenticated BEFORE buying or bidding. Once you own the item, the buyer is now stuck with paying for return postage if it turns out to be SNAD, unlike a few years ago when a seller could be told to refund the return postage too. I'm sorry you got burned by Ebay's cost-cutting program.

LADIES, Ask BEFORE you buy. None of us here are expert enough to be sure we're right 100 percent of the time, and even the authenticators here ask each other for advice when they're not sure about a bag or accessory. Don't throw away your money bidding on what looks like a hidden bargain you don't want anyone else to know about - nothing's a bargain if it turns out to be fake.

Regarding the keychain, it's absolutely fake and the seller knows it's fake because she's lying about having purchased from Coach. And when you asked her about authenticity, why would she answer that it's authentic "as far as I know?" Having bought from Coach (supposedly), she'd KNOW it's authentic.

This is what the weekend keychain is supposed to look like:

You're welcome.

In the future, also, please post your authentications in the format you've used in this post. It's always helpful and provides a wealth of information when we see seller IDs and their histories. It's not just the item in question we evaluate; it's the seller too.

In this case, after seeing the seller's current and completed listings, it appears that it was probably an "honest" mistake but a mistake, nonetheless on the seller's part since a fake should never have been listed had the seller done her homework ahead of time.
