Authentic? The item description says Costa Rica, but the creed states the purse seems to be from the US.
Seller: Ms2SweetVintage

Did you buy the bag? If you did I'd suggest asking the seller to clarify where the bag was actually made. Sellers sometimes make mistakes. If the creed is different from the photos when you receive it then you'll need to post photos here of what you actually received.

Item: Small Tan Drawstring Bucket Bag (USA, circa 1990)
Seller: Goodwill $7
Dimensions: 9" tall, 10" wide, and 4.5" deep (across the bottom)

Comments: Please give an opinion about authenticity, thank you. If you know any information about this bag (e.g., style number, name, year released, etc.) those details would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

It looks like a Pocket Drawstring style 4021 from the Lightweight collection. It was introduced in 1990. They apparently made it only for a short time since the 1990 Holiday catalog is the only place I can find it.

The first two look ok.

The third one worries me. Although it's possible that some plants may have had more than one creed stamp or may have decided to modify or tweak an existing stamp, it's just odd that a photo I have from the same plant, month and year is so different. It's your decision but I can't give you any positive opinion - it may be ok but I personally wouldn't bid on it.

The Court Bag 9870 creed is from a genuine bag, the tan creed is from the Station Bag you asked about. I also have several other creed pics from the same plant but a few months newer and they show exactly the same stamping details as the genuine black bag, I can post those too if you need to see them.
Oh wow - thank you so much for pointing that out. I did feel that the creed seemed a little "off" - the hyphen isn't straight, the imprints seem slightly sloppy, etc., but I thought I was just being paranoid.

I actually just won the auction - I guess I will have to explain to the seller what I just learned. So disappointing!

Do you think you could also give me an opinion on this Willis creed here?

I'm really thankful for your expertise, Hyacinth! You really saved me from a questionable purchase :)

The Willis creed on its own doesn't have any red flags, but we'd also need to see the rest of the bag.

Please wait for other opinions because this isn't generally my area of expertise. I'm responding mainly because if you're interested in #1, it ends soon and I wanted to get my comments in there.

1. Knowing a serial number and having it "match" the bag isn't enough to prove authenticity. Fakes can have valid serial numbers and even serial numbers that seem "correct" for the style of bag. If you have time and if the seller will send a picture, perhaps you can post the creed and get the green light in time.

2. Wait for other opinions.

3. boatman-usa's listing is fake. Please report the bag with the always-fake and always invalid serial number, 0974-534

ETA: I am not comfortable with boatman-usa's listings. Other listings appear to have a photoshopped serial number, making it impossible to read, however, the style number portion of the s/n is not 9927 in this listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Coa...470?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item4ac193a84e

Other listings appear that the seller purposely (???) made it impossible to authenticate because of the carpy pics.

4. Wait for other opinions.
