So, I recently picked up a vintage NYC Coach bag at a thrift store, and it has inspired in me a love of the old stuff. Here is the other listing that I am curious about--no serial number, but clearly a space for one!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321056933928

Thank you again.

Same style and time period.

BTW, please check the very first post in this thread, we ask that authentication requests also include the auction number and the seller's name or ID. Thanks, and welcome to tPF!

old Cashin Kisslock Watermelon Tote

Hi guys, I just picked this bag up & would love help authenticating it. The leather is feels right & the patina is beautiful, however there are a couple things that caught caught my eye:

1) Some sloppy stitching on the inside of one of the handles -see pics.

2) Some of the stitches along the top seam are unevenly spaced; this is near where the topline/trim edges join up.

3) The metal kisslock shows wear & the color of the metal looks slightly un-uniform, like the finish has worn. There's a subtle but noticable yellowish/golden toned stripe on the metal along the lower edge of the kisslock. Above this stripe is silver.

4) The zippers are heavy duty metal but unmarked. I checked the sides & underneath.

Also, the kisslock is separating from the leather, is there a way to fix this without causing more damage?

Thanks Ladies (& Gents), any help is greatly appreciated, I'd love to know more about it!

-Heather

Oh, I'm sorry--I don't know how I originally missed the requested format for these posts--I will be sure to follow those rules in the future. And thank you so much for authenticating these for me! I'm thrilled that you are willing to offer this really great service to us neophytes.

I have the Watermelon Tote and had it authenticated by the Cashin Foundation back in 2007. I was told it was NOT designed by Cashin.

However, mine does have slightly sloppy stitching on the handles, though not quite that sloppy.

Mine also has some uneven stitching on the body of the bag also.

I'm not familiar with that particular zipper head, but that means nothing.

The brass metal on many of my old Coach bags has lost color and changed from gold to silver. I'm not sure why, but it happens.

As to repairs - I would ask the ladies on the Rehab and Rescue Club if they have ideas. It's a huge thread with many pages and lots of great information.

Good morning ladies! Do any of you know if they faked the Madison Pierres? I spotted one at the thrift yesterday that I thought looked okay, but wasn't sure enough to grab it because this particular thrift has a no-return policy. As always I bow to your expertise!

Up until just a few months ago I didn't think Madisons were ever faked, and then I saw a fake "classic" Madison style on Ebay and it was a Pierre. Most counterfeiters didn't bother because the leather required special processing and they figured it wasn't worth it.

The best thing to do is to study the real ones to learn about the detials counterfeiters usually wouldn't bother with - the wording and stamping of the creed especially the Made In Italy statement and the "E" plant code, and the lining that was unique to the Madisons. Pictures of the fake Pierre are below, notice the invalid serial number prefix, the badly stamped creed that doesn't have the unique Madison wording and says "Made in USA", and the fake style number that even though it begins with 44**, actually belongs to a Soho Stripe Twill bag.

I posted pics of the fake here:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...coach-fakes-here-430751-572.html#post22959113

Compare it to the genuine ones currently listed on Ebay:

It's a genuine Station Bag from the late 80s.

Lines above and below the numbers happened often during the 80s and 90s, but they've also been used in fakes and should never be considered proof that the bag is genuine.

I am trying vey hard to follow the rules of this sight, in the mean time getting valuable info. Although none of the info pertains to my question I am not sure if I am allowed to ask for authenication at this time, I JUST signed up.
